Shuttling between archaeological sites, an inevitable component of any Jordan trip, may have you longing for those haunting, limitless expanses of desert you’ve glimpsed from car windows. If so, head south for Wadi Rum, which offers spectacular vistas of towering cliffs and bold rock formations etched by erosion into other-worldly forms.
Lawrence of Arabia was a well-known visitor to the Wadi Rum, and there are a number of sites here associated with him through tradition or historical proof. But generally there is little in the way of construction, or even vegetation, with only the nomadic Bedouins able to scratch an existence out of the red desert sands.

Doing what: Private 4-Day Jordan Special Tour: Petra, Wadi Rum and The Dead Sea
The tour was great! I took my parents and aunt on this 4 day private tour and we had an amazing time. Ahmad our driver and guide was very nice, helpful, well informed and spoke good English. Due to the snow and the icy road conditions, we didn’t make it to Wadi Rum and so Ahmad took us to Madabar and Mt Nebo instead. We appreciated the flexibility offered from such private tours. I also liked the fact that the travel agency was calling from time to time to check that everything was OK (as the roads were icy and slippery). I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone heading to Jordan.

Doing what: Private 4-Day Jordan Special Tour: Petra, Wadi Rum and The Dead Sea
Absolutely nothing to complain about! Shadi our tour guide was an absolute star! Nothing was too much trouble. We mixed things up and went to the Dead Sea, we changed plans so we stayed in wadi rum. Just brilliant. I've travelled a lot and I would highly recommend this company. Absolutely awesome!

Doing what: Private 4-Day Jordan Special Tour: Petra, Wadi Rum and The Dead Sea
Tour guide was awesome, he was extremely informative, friendly and really helped us to get the most out of our time there. He spoke excellent English and had a great sense of humour. We were able to tailor our tour with our driver a little to suit our interests. Highly recommend this tour - was a good amount of things to do without feeling overstretched and the hotels were very comfortable and the meals provided were great. Everything went smoothly from start to finish. We went during Ramadan, and I would not be put off by going during Ramadan - although I did feel very sorry for our guides at times when they couldn't drink any water on a 40 degree day!
Practical Info
Wadi Rum is in the far south of Jordan, inland from the Red Sea resort town of Aqaba. The two can be combined into a journey of intriguing contrasts, and a desert stay in a Bedouin camp makes a great alternative to the limited conventional accommodation on offer here. Camels are the traditional means of sightseeing, or you can rent a 4-wheel-drive with Bedouin driver.
