5 star rating: Highly Recommended Review by cindy g, September 2012
Doing what:

This was awesome. Edam was surreal and the guide was really easy-going and informative. I have seen may beautiful pictures of the windmills and now have my own. My only disappointment was that I wish I had more time in both stops.

I enjoyed this trip but felt it could have been better. Alkmaar is a beautiful little town and enough time isnt allowed for axploring. I feel the trip to the farm at the conclusion(20 mins drive, 40 minute for the visit) could be cut in order to give more time at Alkmaar. Cheese is available in abundance for purchase and taste everywhere, I felt the farm visit was really unncecessary. Our guide was excellent, she probably made up for the shortfall

We loved this trip! Alkmaar is a lovely little town and the cheese market is fascinating and fun. Only wish we had more time to explore. Very interesting to learn about the windmills and what they were used for.

Doing what:

A bit too long. It would have been nicer to have been able to spend more time in the villages that we walked through. Otherwise it was a good tour.

Doing what:

The tour was nice, they took us to nice, fun places. Unfortunately we encountered some problems. First we were instructed to meet the tour at a particular hotel. We arrived at the hotel exactly on time and they had already left and we had to walk a ways to meet up with them. Also later on at the windmills and cheese factory our guide disappeared a little and we were a little confused about where to go for a short while. Otherwise the tour was pleasant and interesting.

2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better Review by Jayne A. M, September 2012
Doing what:

Too many stops. Need more time in Volendam, Edam and Markken. The trip to see the Enclosure dike could have been eliminated completely! Everything was much too rushed! We did not enjoy constantly getting off and on the bus.

Doing what:

Trip to the windmills was nice which included the clog making session and the cheese as well. But Edam was kind of boring though, but might be due to the timing that we went. Overall not bad an experience.

Doing what:

Quite fun, but not enough time is spent on Edam and Marken.

There were literally thousands of people at the market since it was holiday time. We couldn't see anything ! It was a rediculous waste of time and money -however the windmill film and tour was interesting and informative

1 star rating: I do not recommend this Review by Amy S, August 2012
Doing what:

I've booked many tours in multiple countries through Viator and this was the singularly worst one I've ever taken! The guide was taciturn, at best. The clog factory at least had its own guide but our guide just sent us individually to go into the windmills, with no explanations of history, workings etc, even though your write-up says that the windmill visit would be guided.. I could have done a much better job traveling there on my own. At least then I would not have been rushed and could have read the materials on the wall. Then we went to Edam where he walked us through the city for 25 minutes, pointing out exactly 4 spots, with again no historic information, comments etc. And certainly no visit to the Edam cheese factory. My som was bored and furious at what amounted to a real waste of time!

Doing what:

Very nice tour! It was nice to see a little bit of the country outside of Amsterdam. My favorite was the cheese shop where you got to taste tons of delicious cheeses made right there! It was also nice to get entry into the Diamant Museum included in the cost of the booking and we were able to stop by right after the bus dropped us off.

A knowledgeable guided tour on a very comfortable bus. Plenty of time at the cheese Mart. When you arrive, wait patiently and withing ten minutes you will find yourself at the rail with a great view of the event. It costs an extra 4 euro per person to go into the windmill and climb to the top but it is worth it! The visit to the cheese farm is really interesting. The guide speaks many languages, and after the presentation, you get to taste many kinds of cheeses. It is a must see!

All in all a good trip, Alkmaar was nice to visit.
The windmill was interesting too, it seemed a bit weird that they charged extra to visit the mill (3 euro), calling it optional.
It should have been included in the excursion price, what else should we do when we get there, sit on the bus?

Great. Well worth it.

An interested trip that I am glad I signed up! We saw how cheese auction took place and it was really interesting to see so many cheeses been moved around during the auction. The windmills are beautiful too!
