Another favorite! The Jordaan is a labyrinth of narrow streets and little canals, boutiques, galleries, courtyards and 'brown' pubs. A great part of town to stroll around and take in the atmosphere. This part of Amsterdam has a colorful history. ...

An Amsterdammertje is a pole on a sidewalk that is used to prevent unwanted parking and separates the roadway/pavement. In the days of the horse and wagon an upside down gun barrel was used. The crosses are part of the city arms and are named after the apostle St Andrew who died a martyr's death.

Spring in Amsterdam

September 2010

Spring is my favorite time of the year in Amsterdam. Flowers and trees are in bloom, birds are singing and people are smiling! Sit down at an outdoor cafe at a canal, relax and enjoy the sunshine. Or why not join an Amsterdam Photography Walking Tour to capture the moment!

In the diary of her life during the Second World War Anne Frank wrote that she could hear the bells of the Westertoren. The Anne Frank house is just a stone throw away from the Westerkerk at the border of the Jordaan. The Amsterdam hop on hop off canal bus stops nearby.

Amsterdam squashed and square

A Dutch children song goes like this : Amsterdam, die grote stad die is gebouwd op palen. Als die stad eens ommeviel wie zou dat betalen? Amsterdam, the big city it is built on poles. If that city ever falls over who should pay for that? Check out the house in the middle all squashed and square
