Amsterdammertje

An Amsterdammertje is a pole on a sidewalk that is used to prevent unwanted parking and separates the roadway/pavement. In the days of the horse and wagon an upside down gun barrel was used. The crosses are part of the city arms and are named after the apostle St Andrew who died a martyr's death.

In the diary of her life during the Second World War Anne Frank wrote that she could hear the bells of the Westertoren. The Anne Frank house is just a stone throw away from the Westerkerk at the border of the Jordaan. The Amsterdam hop on hop off canal bus stops nearby.
