Visiting Amsterdam in Winter
There is plenty to do in Amsterdam over winter. The climate in the capital city of The Netherlands is not always at its most welcoming but if you’re lucky the sun will come out, the crowds will have disappeared, and you’ll have the place virtually to yourself.

1. Ice Skating
Amsterdam’s Leidseplein and Museumplein are converted into ice rinks over the winter. Both are surrounded by bars, cafés, and food stalls, so take a turn on the ice and then sample warming Dutch erwtensoep (pea soup) and oliebollen (donuts), accompanied by zopie (mulled wine).
