If you’d like to enjoy some typical Peruvian cuisine, Arequipa is the place to go, as it features much variety and is well-known for its unique gastronomy. Traditional “picanterias” are where you’ll get rich sampler-style tapas. Some meals to expect include “Ocopa,” boiled potatoes smothered in spicy cream sauce, blended with dry bread and served with lettuce, olives and eggs, “Chupe de Camarones,” a flavorful soup containing shrimp, eggs, cheese, milk, potatoes, tomatoes and spicy peppers and “Chactado,” guinea pig or rabbit topped with spicy gravy and served with boiled potatoes.
