For us, we loved the hop on hop experience. We had already been to Athen before; and, we have already seen most of the tourist sites; and, we were back on a cruise. We left our ship after lunch and then caught the hop on hop off bus at the port. It is worth noting that the port of Athens is in Piraeus; and, the stop for the port is on the blue line. To see any of the major attaractions in Athens, you have to transfer to the red line bus. The transfer point is at the Acropolis stop. The travel time from the port to the transfer point is about 25 minutes. If you were buying the red line only, the prices is $18 Euros. For both lines 22 euros. That was the question our bus driver asked us when we boarded at the port stop. We did not know; as, Viator only offers one price for the hop on hop off. Thankfully for us, our driver did not make a fuss; but, it is worth confirming that you did buy for both lines; as, if you do not, you will need to find your own way from the port to the Acropolis stop.

My first full day in Athens had to begin with the Athens half day tour, simply because if anyone is coming to Athens, then it would stand to reason that they are there to visit the Acropolis. Our tour guide was excellent, and gave details and a little history into everything we passed that was of some importance. The Acropolis and the museum, of course, were the highlights of this trip, and the reason I was there, and wish now I had also booked the Acropolis night tour. I don’t think that this needs to be your first time visit to Athens though to enjoy the tour, and I would certainly go again. I would advise the wearing of shoes with good grip on the soles, as when you are in the Acropolis, (which by the way is NOT the temple that you see, but everything within the walls), you will find that the path can be very slippery and uneven. There is a refreshment bar near to the entrance.
Once you have visited the Acropolis, the next stop is the museum, where no photography is allowed at all, until you reach the top floor. On approach to the entrance, you will walk across a glazed floor and look down onto excavations and see the mosaic decorated floor of ancient Roman ruins. This extends well into the museum itself, and again, you will be walking on glass.
Fantastic half day that gives you an introduction into ancient Greece.

If you want a quick tour round Athens that captures all the main historical attractions this is the tour for you. The tour guide was also very very informative about greek culture past and present and also mythologically.

This was a great way to see Athens in one day. The bus picked us up from the cruise ship terminal and dropped us back. we where able to see everything we wanted to learn about the history and return to places we wanted to for shopping and food. We loved this tour so much we then used the same company in Istanbul, Barcelona and Florence.

Loved it! But I have a suggestion: The Acropolis is more popular than other sites on the tour, so it should be the last stop. Why? People want to linger up there longer. Having it near the beginning of the tour means rushing everyone to other sites. Once out of the gate, you cannot get back in unless you pay again.
