Onassis Cultural Centre
Just opened in December 2010, the Onassis Cultural Center in Athens, Greece, is a state-of-the-art visual arts facility housed in an abstract and marvelous modern rectangular shell - a structure subscribing to the ancient Greek architectural trait of minimalism.
Home to a number of stages, the center boasts a plethora of theatre, dance, music and visual arts from all walks of life, specializing the furthering of the arts in all things Greek.
Depending on what is scheduled at the time you are planning a visit, you may catch a delightful art showing or sculpture exhibit inspired by the poems of Greek poets. Nothing seems to be off limits at the OCC.
The biggest, the Main Stage, is an amphitheater that can seat 880 enthusiasts, with all the modern technology available to host a wide variety of abstract, large-scale theatrical dance performances, or even high quality cinema screenings.
For an added treat, take a stroll up to the rooftop restaurant-bar-café to enjoy a drink and a bite to eat with panoramic views overlooking the Acropolis, Philopappos monument, and the Saronic Gulf - a romantic gesture worthwhile in and of itself.
