Doing what: Waitomo Caves and Rotorua Day Trip from Auckland

Our guide chattered all the way there with shuch knowledge that it made the trip go so quckly. The caves were amazing and Rotorua turned on the fine weather. Overall an excellent day

The driver refused to drop me at my hotel despite the fact that I had paid for that service and he dropped everyone else staying in Rotorua. The driver never shut up for the whole journey which was a bit trying after the first few hours. The glow worms were good.

I wish they allow us to take photos in the caves but I do understand the reason. No complains. It is a fantastic trip, especially those glow worms. What a view. And the Geyser, Oh, my, you had to go and see for yourself.

Have only clicked one star because will not accept comment without a rating but this tour was not worth even one star,
Three day tour was supposed to be finale to our holiday - having booked on half a dozen other viator tours we expected better - a real disappointment.
It was not a tour - involved 9 different buses - many were service buses and there was no commentary and didn't enjoy backpackers music. Only 2 half day tours one excellent- Lake Taupo the other a quick glimpse of geysers - Sheep show etc and then deposited at hotels by 2pm with nothing to do.No meals included. Had feeling of having been 'ripped of'f' ' as knew we could have put together a better itinerary for half the price we were charged.Totally unsuitable for two mature ladies with large suitcases! Would not suit any self respecting backpacker even if they had money to throw away.

Doing what: Waitomo Caves and Rotorua Day Trip from Auckland

long but great and informative

The details of this trip read that it was a tour. I signed up alone for my first trip to New Zealand. I expected a tour where the same people would be with me for the duration. This was very different. One day, I was transported to a public bus, which I rode for the day to Wellington. The hotel was in an area too far for any real sight seeing. You are left on your own quite a bit. That was OK in a couple of stops since there were things you could do and see on your own. I did enjoy NZ quite a bit and was able to see a bit of both islands. The tour ends in Christchurch. I was moved by what the people of Christchurch have been through. I think you should reconsider the end city of the tour. Access to the city, where most tourist attractions were, is closed. Based on the other Viator tours I've taken, this rated very low.

Doing what: Waitomo Caves and Rotorua Day Trip from Auckland

Like everyone else said, the bus ride is long and takes up the most part of the day.
The trip consists of basically 3 attractions: glowworms, a farm (at which you see sheep shearing and a sheep dog in action), and a Maori show at a thermal spot (if you're lucky, the geyser will spout when you're there).

If it weren't for the fact that glowworms aren't found in other parts of the world, this trip would be an expensive yawn.

Doing what: Waitomo Caves and Rotorua Day Trip from Auckland

Longer trip than expected, nice waitomo caves tour and interesting but short and not so wild. Rotorua, maori show good, and spectacular geyser. Waitomo caves are far from Auckland.

Very good day out with a friendly and knowledgeable driver. Waitamo glow worm caves were good to see and we quite enjoyed the farm, but Rototua thermals and mud pools are spectacular. The only downside is the amount of time on the road (approx 3 hours each way). Although the scenery is excellent after 2 weeks travelling New Zealand we were in scenery overload.

Excellent! We had a great time. The staff were fantastic. I only wish I had more time to explore the Caves and Rotorua. Waitomo Caves should be on everyone's must visit list when they come to New Zealand.

The tour included many great things to see around New Zealand. The glow worm cave boat ride and the Maori cultural show were the highlights for me. The only downside to the 1 day tour was there was lots of driving (around 6 to 7 hours) and not a lot of time to browse the gift shops or venues otherwise the tour would miss one of the stops.

The caves are wonderful, the agrodome was very funny and interesting and the Rotorua region was awesome...

Great tour guide and bus driver.
Food not so good though. There was not actual morning tea, they just handed a muffin at the start of the trip. Lunch was not better.
I would recommend people to buy something fresh at the Waitomo Caves for lunch or to take some sandwiches/Fruits with you.
Expensive considering that you only get off the bus for 30 minutes to visit the Waitomo Caves but you get to see a lot of the country side.
