Every summer night a glance towards the Congress Avenue Bridge will yield the site of people stopped in their tracks, cameras in hand and waiting to catch sight of the spectacle that is the Congress Avenue Bridge Bats. The world’s largest urban bat colony lives under this bridge, and come dusk their nightly emergence is one of the grandest wildlife viewings in the world.

This nightly migration was initially met with fear, but slowly an appreciation developed and now, as the sun sets, visitors watch as the angry black cloud of 1.5 million bats spiral out into the summer sky. Making for one of the most unique and fascinating tourist attractions anywhere, the Congress Avenue Bridge Bats is a summer sight not to be missed.
