Newcastle sits north and a little east of Sydney, and it makes its mark as the second most populous city in the state of New South Wales. Depending on traffic, if you jump in a car in Sydney, you can arrive in the city of Newcastle in just over 2 hours – nothing major by any means in the spread-out country of Australia.
