My wife and I enjoyed this tour immensely. Our guide, Adeline, was very knowledgeable about wine and the wine-making process. She also was a wealth of information about the history, geography, and meteorology of the surrounding region. The highlight of this tour was a wine tasting class at a winery in Ventoux where Adeline explained how to evaluate and taste wine. We were able to taste seven wines during this class. After lunch we went to a winery in Tavel where we tasted several rose wines which Tavel specializes in comparing wines made from grapes grown in different soils. We ended our day in Chateauneuf-du-Pape at a winery which discussed the specialized wine-making process in that region. We found Adeline to be utterly charming. Her English was impeccable.
Great tour. Our tour guide Emilie was very informative and sweet. She picked us up from the hotel and we saw Orange and the vineyards of Chateauneuf de Pape and had a very nice wine tasting at one of the wineries. I recommend this tour
It was good, and the tour guide quite helpful. I really would have preferred to have a wine tasting at several wineries in Chateauneuf du Pape, but that was not an option.
The afternoon vineyard tour to Tavel and Chateauneuf du Pape was excellent. The tour guide was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful, and the tastings were superb. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Avignon. My only regret was not buying any Tavel or Lirac.
This was a wonderful tour! Our guide picked us up at our hotel and for this tour, it turned out, it was only the two of us and one other person. Our guide, Caroline, was very personable, knowledgeable and enjoyable. She also provided a mini-tour of Avignon as we headed out of town toward the wine country. We first went to a Tavel winery which specializes in Rose wines. We tasted three different wines - a white, a red, and a Rose. All were wonderful. The winery guide provided a lot of interesting information about the Cote-du-Rhone wine region. Very informative. After this visit, we headed to Chateauneuf-du-Pape where we went to another winery. At this winery we received a tour of the winery and the various wine aging areas. After the tour, we tasted 4 or 5 different wines - one white and the rest reds. Also very wonderful. Our winery tour guide was very entertaining and lots of fun. All in all a very enjoyable and worthwhile afternoon. I highly recommend it!
This trip was cancelled, but instead we went to 2 wineries in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, which was very enjoyable
This wasn't actually the trip we went on as we were asked if we minded changing our date to the next day. This wasn't a problem for us and we went to Orange and Chateauneuf-du-Pape instead. Our tour guide Anna was prompt and very informative. Orange was lovely, well worth a visit. The wine tasting was a good experience. We thought it was good value for money.
My husband and I loved this day trip!! Great way to see a lot of the surrounding Provence area and sights. Well planned and organized day... we saw all of our scheduled sights in leisure time. Our guide Ann was wonderful, punctual and knowledgeable. We really liked our small group setting of 8. The Orange antic Theatre and triumphal arch, Pont du Gard, Les Baux, Gordes and Roussillon were fantastic and definitely worth visiting! Loved touring and sampling at Chateauneuf du Pape winery (learned a lot too)! Fun and Special day...highly recommend Le Grand Tour!!
Doing what: Provence Le Grand Tour
This review is for the "Grand Tour" of Provence. Sites visited included Orange, Chateauneuf de Pape, Roussilon, Les Baux, Gordes, and the Pont du Garde. I was pleasantly surprised by the tour. I had found it hard to believe that so many visits to widely separated areas could be accomplished in so short a time without extremely short stays and a "rushed" feeling. That was not the case. We stopped at all the scheduled places and had ample free time at each stop to wander around, see the sights, and enjoy ourselves. Our driver/guide was very nice and informative. I recommend this tour.

I was very happy with my tour and guide Vivienne. She was very knowledgeable. I immensely enjoyed Arles, Orange, Les Baux de Provence and Chateauneuf du Pape. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone especially a women travelling alone.
We really liked our tour to Orange and Chateauneuf du Pape. Our tour guide,Virginie, was just great! She was friendly and she answered all questions. We enjoyed the wine tasting and visting Orange. We recommend this tour to anyone.
The tour of the countryside and theatre were fantastic but the Chateauneuf du Pape was even better. The wines were great and the sommelier was not only knowledgeable but friendly and funny.
A rushed tour, squeezing in a lot. The Antique Theater was great, the wine tasting was at Chateauneuf du Papes, which was a beautiful place by itself. The wine was disappointing but still worth the side trip. The villages visited were impressively beautiful. The time in each was very limited, so that there was little time to explore. If you want an overview of Provence, this tour will do the trick. It might leave you wanting to return for a second visit to one or two places to spend more time.
Doing what: Provence Le Grand Tour
Due to the festival it was not possible for us to be picked up at our hotel, Hotel de l'Horloge, so we had to walk down to the Hotel Bristol to be collected this would have been fine if we hadn't been kept waiting for 20 minutes in the intense heat we had been told to be there 15 minutes before the set time!
The actual tour was really enjoyable and our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the wine and the area and as we had not hired a car during our stay in Avignon, this tour gave us the opportunity to see some of the countryside on the other side of the Rhone. The drive through the vineyards seeing the different types of soil that the grapes are grown on was really interesting. The wine tasting at Tavel was very enjoyable and we learned a lot. The wine tasting and tour of the Chateauneuf du Pape winery, including the cellars and seeing the range of oak barrels, was also really interesting and we were so glad we had booked this tour. It was just a shame that at the Chateauneuf du Pape vineyard a large party of Chinese tourists objected to our small group of 6 being given a tour by one of the winery representatives they clearly thought that they had exclusive rights to the vineyard and all of its staff and they reduced their tour guide to tears over it - what an unpleasant and unnecessary situation!!!
Very informative, the guides were knowledgeable and helpful. We got to tour 2 separate wine production facilities 1 at each appellation and had 2 separate tastings 3 roses at Tavel, 3 whites and 2 reds at Chateauneuf-du-Pape. I would definitely recommend to someone who has not done a wine tour before, but I wouldn't personally do again unless you are a true wine buff.
This trip was short and sweet - just a quick stop in Orange at the Roman amphitheater, and a drive through the Chateauneuf-du-Pape vineyards followed by a stop at a wine cellar & shop with a quick lesson and tasting. We thought it was well timed, and of course the scenery was fantastic. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, and obviously passionate about wine.
The tour was very nice, and the guide was very gentle. The roman theater in Orange is simply fantastic: immense and very well preserved. I liked the visit to Chateauneuf du Pape, although I'd imagined we would have more contact with the cellars and the production.
My husband and I really enjoyed trip to the Theatre of Orange and the wine tasting at Chateauneuf du Pape. The wine tasting was very professionally conducted and I felt like I learnt a lot more about wines. However, these are places that are easily accessible by car, so if you are in the mood for driving, there may be no need to sign up for this tour.
The Roman Theater in Orange is really spectacular. Wine tasting at a Chateauneuf winery was fun owing to the reputation of the area. Our guide was not as good as we expected. She sent us in to the Roman Theater in Orange and left us for 1 1/2 hrs on our own. It would have been so much better to have heard from her about the history and events. The audio guide was OK, but you can't ask it questions and you can't adapt it for the interest of those on the tour. Same thing at Chateauneuf - she could have added greatly to the tour by being there instead of leaving us.
The tour of both winery's was interesting but the Taval winery was not on par with the enthusiasm of the Chateauneuf-Du-Pape winery speaker.
