Comment from Brooke
Ayers Rock is considered the spiritual center of Australia, and is, coincidentally, located at just about the center of the country as well.
You will hear Ayers Rock often referred to by its Aboriginal name, Uluru.
Ayers Rock itself, reaching a height of 1,142 feet (348 meters) and a circumference of 5.8 miles (9.4km), and composed of bright reddish-orange arkose sandstone, towers over the surrounding flat lands of the Red Centre. Subsequently, the giant rock, with its breathtaking colors at dusk and dawn, is known as the most iconic of Australian landmarks in the world.
