Not a big fan of Kuta, but I understand its attraction for some. Kuta is very crowded and over-built in my opinion, though I'd still rather be there than most other places in the world. There are plenty of good restaurants and lots of night life if that's what you want. But why stay with the crowds and craziness when there is an entire island of fascination to be explored? I prefer Sanur, Ubud and perhaps Nusa Dua. Get with a guide and see the island, meet the people and explore the culture. There is so much to see and do that you won't be able to get it all in one trip, which is fine because it gives you a reason to come back to Bali.
