The list of quality golf courses in Bali is a notoriously short one, but it’s a prestigious one nonetheless. It’s true that the majority of courses are either exclusive country clubs or affiliated with luxury resorts or both. In other words, it’s not a pursuit for enthusiasts on a budget, but if you can afford it, hitting the links in the sun is well worth the expense. The following are the best that the Indonesian island destination has to offer.
1. Club Nusa Dua
For golfers just off the plane, the Nusa Dua golf course at the Bali Golf and Country Club in an obvious choice. Thanks to its close proximity to the island’s main airport, you’ll be basking in the glow of the sun reflecting off the Indian Ocean and gazing at Mount Agung in no time.
2. Handara Kosaido
Located at little further afield than Nusa Dua (approximately two hours by car from the airport, and roughly an hour from Ubud), Bali Handara combines the pleasures of relaxing in the mountains of Bedulga with a world class course designed by Peter Thompson and Michael Wolferidge.
3. Nirawana
Owned and maintained by the world's largest sports marketing and management company, Nirawana is another opportunity to stretch your legs and test your skills within view of the ocean (one hole even requires competitors to pitch across an ocean inlet). A full 18 holes will set you back nearly $200, or you can opt for a cheaper (and shorter) sunset session starting at 4 p.m. daily.
