  • Address: Ko Kret, Pak Kret
Ko Kret is a small, man-made island on the Chao Phraya River just 20 km north of Bangkok. It can be reached by ferry or guided tour and makes a nice day trip and escape from the hot hectic city.

The island, which was made by canal construction in the 1870's, is home to 7 villages. It's a haven for the indigenous Mon tribe, who are known for their distinct sect of Buddhism and their elaborate pottery.  Much of the island is quite rustic and relaxed compared to modern Bangkok. A tour will take you to various temples, including Wat Poramaiyikawat- an old Burmese monastery and villages around the island, but the most popular thing for tourists to do on Ko Kret is to simply wander the streets and browse the many pottery shops.
