Family-Friendly Activities in Bangkok

Bangkok is a treasure trove of things to do no matter what age you are, and while it might not seem a kid-friendly place at first, there’s a range of experiences your toddlers, tweens or teenagers will love.

Go underwater at Siam Ocean World. The Thai Islands may be the best place to explore the real ocean, but you can get a taste of it at Siam Ocean World, where you and the kids can touch starfish and other marine critters in the touch pool, watch penguins having dinner or dip your feet into a Thai “fish spa.”

Cool off at a water park. Bangkok can get hot and humid, so spending time in the water is a must. Even if your hotel has a pool, plan to spend a day at Fantasia Lagoon or Siam Park.

Relax on a river cruise. When you need to get off your feet for a while, hop on a boat plying the waters of the Chao Phraya River for a trip along Bangkok’s major waterway. Alternately, you can take a tour of the city’s backwater canals.

Get wild at Safari World. Safari World, an open zoo, ferries visitors through the park on an open-air bus to see animals up close. The tour takes about 45 minutes, and you can stay for a lion or tiger feeding show.

Go gold at Wat Pho Temple. Bangkok is full of beautiful temples and palaces where you can expose your family to a dose of local culture, and Wat Pho is one of the best. Purchase some gold leaf from the vendors outside the temple and let the kids apply it to the Buddha statues within.

Visit a snake farm. Watch a cobra having its venom milked and learn about the environmental importance of these animals with a visit to a snake farm. The Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute and the Bangkok Snake Farm at the Red Cross Institute are two of the best.

Spend the day at Dusit Zoo. When in doubt, head to the zoo. The same is true for Bangkok, where you’ll find more than 1,600 animals from all over the globe. Rent a paddle boat to get out on the zoo’s lake and walk the Sky Walk to see some of the animal habitats from above.
