One of Switzerland’s chief ski destinations with 220 kilometers of slopes, Gstaad has long been the retreat of choice for affluent Europeans, with a host of famous faces taking up part-time residence in the village.

The village lies at 1,050 meters and is dominated by a lively promenade of designer boutiques, upmarket hotels, restaurants and art galleries. Surrounded by busy ski resorts and luxury chalets, the region is a hotbed of snow activities through the winter months, with skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and winter hiking all being popular pastimes.

It’s not only a wintertime destination, either – Gstaad makes an ideal base for hikers, mountain bikers and paragliders, in addition to its world-class golf courses. A number of summer music and sports festivals keep the crowds entertained, from Tennis and Polo championships, to a Classic Music Festival and the renowned Hot-Air Balloon Festival.
