Parc de la Ciutadella
Strolling the idyllic promenades, lined with palm trees and colorful flowerbeds, is one of the most popular pastimes for visitors to the park, but there are also a number of impressive buildings are dotted throughout. The 19th century Castel dels Tres Dragons, built to resemble a medieval castle, and the neoclassical Martorell, or Geology Museum, designed by Antoni Rovira i Tries in 1870, are both worth a look, but the dramatic centerpiece to the park is the striking Catalan Parliament building, the park’s oldest building.
Barcelona Zoo, home to 7,500 animals including dolphins, orangutans, snow leopards and elephants, is another much-visited attraction, along with the Zoology museum, Geology Museum and Botanical gardens. Whether you’re looking to spot local wildlife, to enjoy the park’s many summer music and theater events or scout out a scenic picnic spot, Parc de la Ciutadella is a must for visitors to Barcelona.
