These churches are beautiful and our guide would describe her own experience with faith. A real sincere delivery. She walks fast though and sure enough we lost someone along the way. This was right before the second bus pick-up. Oh well, all roads lead to Rome. I guess they retrieved their stufff off the bus later that night because we left after doing a couple of searches.
We booked the "Christian Rome Afternoon Tour", which included a bus ride and tour of the following: the Catacombs of Santa Domitilla, the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, and the Basilica of St John in Lateran, the cathedral of Rome.
We really enjoyed this tour; a bus tour in the afternoon was the perfect break after a long morning of walking around the National Museums. Our guide Anna provided wonderful insights during the ride of numerous sites as we passed them, and she was our primary guide when we toured the 2 Basilicas and the Holy Stairs near St. Johns. The Catacombs have their own tour gudies, and ours was again very informative and easy to understand.
The only reason I give this 4 stars instead of 5 was the time constraint at the Basilicas. However I think this was driven primarily by a transit strike that day, which added to the normal heavy Roman traffic. Unfortunately we felt a bit rushed trying to take in these spectacular sights.
Would highly recommend, even in cold and windy weather. A great way to see this region in a short amount of time. Very informative.
I enjoyed the day and, our Guide was lovely, however, I (and my fellow travellers) felt that it was not worth the money paid- I recently paid less in Tunisia to visit Carthage, Sidi Bou Said and Tunis, with entry fees to all the sites included and lunch- there was only one entry fee on this trip and no lunch- it was basically a minibus trip to Biarritz and San Sebastian (not enough time there and it was the place we all wanted to see most) + a boat/ferry trip across a bay. I enjoyed it, however, was definitely over priced in my opinion (I've worked in the travel business for the best part of 15 yrs). Sorry!
Excellent trup..guide knew all that was needed for the trip...The meal could have been better...only aveerage...have done this trip before and enjoyed it both times
Good tour, lots to see and do. The guide sadly was not very good which did not make the tour as good as it could have been.
The tour was fine, giving us a chance to see the countryside north of Bilbao. Some good food, too. Personally, we would have preferred to stay in St. Jean-de-Luz for the whole day eating that great-looking seafood at all the outdoor restaurants.
I really enjoyed seeing Biarritz and the small towns before San Sebastian. I had expected to eat in San Sebastian and had researched it for a place but we didn't get to to eat there so the advertising needs to not say lunch there as it is misleading. John was very enthusaitic but a bit hard to understand at times since it was so fast. Loved the little beach town and would so this again. Well organized.
We found it very interesting and the tour guide (I didn't get his name, I called him OO-OO) was also entertaining.
a great way to see some important sites - one criticism is that the name of this tour should be more specific to what was visited
The tour was interesting and very informative and meaningful. Guide was mediocre.Pick-up at the hotel was nice but complicated. Pick-up by one bus - transferred to another-then to the office and then on another bus then ending at the office and to another bus to the hotel. Way to complicated and time consuming.
Because we were only a few people on that tour we had to share a bus with another group. Our guide was very pleasant and the guide in the catacombs was awesome.
