Basque pintxos in San Sebastian
If San Sebastian, Spain, is known for one thing, it’s probably the cuisine — after all, the city has more Michelin stars per capita than anywhere else in the world. The best part, though: you don’t have to go to one of those fancy shmancy restaurants to get in on the tasty action. Instead, just hit up a few of the city’s ubiquitous pintxos bars to sample the best that Basque Country has to offer.

Pintxos – pronounced PEEN-chos – are similar to tapas, but with a Basque gourmet twist. Typically served on a slice of bread, they occasionally come pierced by a skewer – hence the origin of their name, pinchar, which means “to pierce.”
