My mum and I booked this trip through the Viator website and the trip itself was a local operator . Our tour guide was Anya and she was spectacular! We had a really good time on the tour and on the way to the castle, Anya told us the whole history of the castle and King Ludwig and her English was perfect. She was hilarious, knowledgeable and very approachable if you had any questions about the castle or even Germany. Instead of the train we were sent by bus, which was probably a better idea because there was a huge influx of people into Munich. We walked our way up to the castle which was a bit extreme at the start but becomes gradual after the first 10 minutes. For those who cannot walk up, there is a little shuttle that can take you up for 2 euros Anya organised that for a couple of people in our group. The castle is beautiful, the village below the castle is really cute. You can also see the Hohenschwangau Castle from the same area but would have to pay for a separate entry fee to get into that castle. We paid 12 euros per person to do the Neuschwanstein Castle but the interior castle tour was extremely short maybe 20 25 minutes or less and you were not allowed to take photos. The trip was worth it but taking the additional tour would be dependent on the traveler. The interior was lovely however but maybe 12 euros is heaps for it. When you walk down from the castle, you can follow the road right to the bottom and land up at a beautiful lake which is very picture worthy! Overall we had a really good day and Anya was fantastic! :
We had a good time on the tour. Instead of the train we were sent by bus, which was probably a better idea because there was a huge influx of people into Munich. The castle is beautiful, the village below the castle is really picturesque, and you can see what I seem to recall is Hohenschwangau Castle from the same area. I would, however, recommend skipping the interior castle tour. It was terribly short 15 minutes or less, an additional 12 euros per person, and pictures are not allowed. The trip was worth it without that additional tour.
No surprises! Everything whet as promised. The guide met us on time and did a very good job. Excellent
English speaker with a lot of extra information about the area as we made our way to the castle.
Our guide Anyafrom Radius was very informative and thorough. The castle tour was ok but Anya was the highlight.
This was a fantastic tour with a great guide. The castle is high on the must see list. The surrounding is breathtaking. I cannot recommend this strongly enough.
Roland gave us so much history. It was a lovely tour and the castle was amazing! I highly recommend it!
We went to the castle via coach, and our guide, Anya, gave us background information on Munich, the Oktoberfest Fest and Nieuschwanstein Castle. She was informative, friendly and chatty and we would recommend her and this tour. The castle was magnificent, as was the little town and surrounding countryside. Very happy with this tour.
We had a wonderful day trip to the castles with our guide Carl. He was quite knowledgable and got us there on time for the tour times for both castles that they had pre-arranged for us. We were very pleased as the lines of people waiting for tickets and for the public bus to get up part of the hill were very long and had we not done this tour, we would have taken some pictures and turned around and gone somewhere else for the day. Carl got us on a private bus up the hill, and had things timed so that we were able to see everything and have a quick lunch in town as well. We would highly recommend this trip.
Tour guides were wonderful, and gave unique insights to both Neuschwanstein Castle and Munich. The Bavarian beer on the drive back was a great added touch.
Thank you for the great time. The tourist guide Anya always patient and with lovely smile, provided us with essential knowledge about Neunschwanstein Castle.
Also breathtaking view of the castle in the fog :
Great tour of the castle! Our guide was very knowledgable and having the transportation taken care of was a huge plus! Would definitely recommend.
The lines to get tickets are massive and very limited. If you go during high season, you have to take this tour, or one like it. Forget trying to go on your own. The castle itself is impressive, but smaller inside than you will expect due to it never having been completed. I would strongly recommend taking this tour as part of a combination with other Castles, but if you only want to see neuschwanstein, this is a necessary option. If you go off season, just skip this tour. On season, it is a MUST. Or you just can't get in.
The tour was well organized and Astrid was a knowledgeable and pleasant guide. She took advantage of available services such as the shuttle up to the town at the base of the castle and the shuttle from there to the Castle. She shared quite a bit of interesting information on Ludwig and the castle and got us to our 10:30am tour right on time. We enjoyed the tour very much...so glad we took the time to visit Neuschwanstein. I'm not surprised it is one of Germany's biggest attractions.
This really is a wonderful day trip, with gorgeous scenery, the intereting history of king Ludwig II and his castle, full of mistery and beauty. We went as a family, with our three teenagers children and we all loved it!
Our tour guide, Anya, was lovely and knowledgeable.
Thank you, Anya, for this perfect day!
Awesome! Our tour guide was friendly and very knowledgeable. She took us to lookouts that no one knew about and told us what to look for as highlights in the castle. The castle was better than expected!
This was our favorite tour while in Munich! The castle is amazing, and there is a beautiful lake at the bottom that you don't want to miss. Our guide, Austin, was wonderful! He is very funny! The bridge was super crowded, but worth the hike to see this beautiful castle.
Austin was awesome! There is a good bit of travel just getting from Munich to Neuschwanstein and back. It gives you lots of time to spend with your guide. Our guide was not only knowledgeable, he was entertaining and nice. Austin provided helpful with hints for enjoying Munich and our time at the castle. We learned a great deal about the King, his construction projects, his life and his death. ASK for AUSTIN!!!
I am very happy with the tour. The guide was punctual and nice. He clearly explained the tour to me as well as provided me with an overall view of the castles, their history and surrounding areas. His Spanish was very good. His suggestions about restaurants were helpful and good
We were a little concerned at first because this tour had somehow become overbooked, and we were asked if we could change our prepaid tickets to a different day when we checked in which we were not able to do. The staff was asking everyone and must have found someone able to change his or her booking. That was the only blemish on an otherwise PERFECT tour. Because of the size of the group it was not small, Viator hired an air-conditioned motorcoach to take us to and from the castle's village where we then boarded the local tram/bus to Neuschwanstein castle for those of us who did not want to walk up the hill from the village to the castle. While we were prepared to take the regional train to the town, the motorcoach was extremely comfortable, and we could all hear the great information that our tour guide told us during the drive. Our tour guide, Anya, was knowledgeable and very nice. She also did a great job in making sure she knew where every member of her group was during the castle visit which was not an easy task, as well as directing us to a lunch place that was reasonably-priced and fast. My daughter, husband, and I were all happy with this tour experience. It was money well-spent.
We had a fabulous guide who gave us background information as we walked up to the castle! Greatly appreciated havering all the transportation prearranged.
Excellent tour, excellent tour guide. Austin from Dallas, TX was knowledgeable, entertaining, and great at getting us where we needed to be at exactly the right time to avoid lines and crowds! The tour makes it very effortless to see Neuschwanstein! No arranging transport from Munich to Fussen or from the train in Fussen to the castle. The castle tour is well worth the entrance fee! Thank you, Austin, for a great day!
This was a super day. I initially booked because I was too late to book directly at the castle. I am very glad that we did. It was a very enjoyable day trip, well-organized, comfortable, and convenient, and our guide --Austin-- was super!!
This company made this full day easy and efficient. My tour guide Austin had a great sense of humor to make the history of the castle and monarchy informative and fun. The train ride out though long was great to see the countryside and chat with other tour members -- great way to find out about other people's travels and culture. Be sure to pick up a sandwich/lunch to take with you and bring coins for paying the bathroom monitor a pain in Europe!. Austin arranged for us to take a bus to the top to save our energy it is quite steep on the way up, lovely stroll on the way down. The castle is definitely a fairytale adventure, the tour was excellent and free time was the right amount. Wear comfy shoes for sure!
Despite a problem with the train we had an excellent day. Anya was extremely helpful and informative. The other people on the tour seemed to enjoy themselves as well and we had glorious weather. Such an amazing castle. Thank you for a great day.
You can travel to the area and get to the castle on your own, but taking this tour made logistics SO much easier! I really appreciated the advance purchase ticket so I was guaranteed a spot in the castle that day. I can see why this is the most popular tourist sight in all of Germany. I'm just glad I was with someone who helped me navigate it so well. Our guide Austin was very charismatic and funny. Don't fuss with going on your own. Book the tour for the interesting historic information and the ease of travel!
