This was a brilliant day. Wonderful guide who shared so much. Amazing time walking along the Great Wall. Great lunch. Unexpected tea ceremony and loved ending with a foot massage. Altogether an excellent day.
The great wall of china is one of the best places i've ever been on earth. The Mutianyu place is quite well conserved, have good facilities and the view on the wall is completely awesome. It wasn't crowded and we had to wait like 5 minutes on the lines to go up (cableway) and down (toboggan - a Must do!!!). The tour guide was very kind and had a pretty good english skill. It was almost a private tour, with a mini van with 5 tourists only. The lunch was OK.
If you're about to buy souvenirs on the way down of the wall, use your best bargain and negotiation skills.
This was the best way to see the sights of Beijing easily... We went to both the Great Wall at Badaling and the Summer Palace. Our guide was informative, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Highly Recommend!
Doing what: Private Custom Tour: Beijing in One Day
Our tour of Beijing Essential Full-Day Tour including Great Wall at Badaling, Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square was wonderful! We had a great day where we were shown the major sights of the city plus a few extras like the silk and jade factories. I loved that all the entrance fees were included in the tour price. Also, the convenience of being picked up and dropped off at our hotel was greatly appreciated. I was slightly disappointed in the lunch, but that wasn't the main attraction, so I didn't dwell on it. Over all I would highly recommend this tour to a friend!
While the experience of being in the wall was fantastic it simply wasn't long enough, we only spent 90 minutes there out of entire day. I would have easily missed the foot massage or the pottery factory for more time on the wall
The good things: The Great Wall at Mutianyu is a great place to visit, when going up on cable car take the Wall to your right, it's more difficult but more interesting too. The guide, Keren, was on time and spoke decent English. Lunch was very good and so was the foot massage on the return to Beijing.
I personally took the stairs to go up and down (1,400 stairs). It took me 14 minutes to go up in a good rythm.Since we left Beijing at 7:00 AM we got there early, and for the first 30 minutes were on the Wall alone without hardly anybody around.
Two things disturbed our group (5 people) seriously:
1. The whole purpose of paying a premium to be on a small group was really to get personal guidance. The guide did NOT guide us at all on the Great Wall! She basically said come down in 3 hours. She told some general stories about the Wall on the car, but you don't need to pay a guide for that. If I knew I'd be alone on the Wall, I would have paid less to go with a bigger group! We saw some other groups with guides on the Wall, but we didn't receive any explanation at all while on the Wall.
2. Arriving to the foot massage in Beijing, she said the driver had a problem finding parking and if some people wanted to go to the hotel directly, the people at the massage should return by themselves either by the subway or by a cab. We thought it was pretty outrageous. We were also asked to tip the driver for waiting for all of us after the foot massage.
We booked a private tour in order to have flexibility, and found that our guide appeared to have a different view of the day. Our visit to the Great Wall was set at a mere 2 hours, while we could have spent much longer there.
We felt rushed, for no reason other than the fact that we were booked for a HORRIBLE lunch at the Jade Factory, where a sales person (who was very sick) followed my every step through the store in an attempt to sell us junk. We did not ask to visit the Jade factory and felt the high pressure sales approach was very inappropriate.
We would have loved to have spent more time visiting the Spirit Way.
Our guide gave us a choice to visit a tea house or a silk factory on the way home. We chose the silk factory, and again felt pressured to make a purchase. BTW, we did buy a "king" size comforter, which turns out to be no more than a full to queen size.
All in all, our guide was well spoken and knowledgeable. Had we confined our activities to touring, it would have been a great day. BTW, Our only bad meal in the entire trip was had during this tour.
One of the highlights of our trip. Dennis the guide was very good. Be ready for a hike on this one. It took about 30 minutes of stair climibing to get up to the wall. Views were spectacular. This secton of the wall is in great shape. We walked through 5 of the towers. Took the toboggan back to the bottom. Great fun and highly recommended. Watch the vendors, they'll ask 150 and sell for 20. You need to negotiate and be ready to walk away. They'll chase you down to make the sale.
The details of this tour are very deceiving and I suggest you find another tour company to book with that actually understands that people want to spend more than 1.5 hours visiting the Great Wall. This is not even a "tour". You are picked up by the "guide" and driver, arrive at the wall, he picks up the tickets for you and says "See ya in 1.5 - 2hrs". We rushed to see as much of the wall as we could and were shocked at the limited time provided. We were asked to be back at the van at 11:30AM. We then drove to lunch with a tour of a ceramics factory. At 1:00pm we were told we would be going to a tea house, which was never advertised on the itinerary so we asked to be dropped back off at the hotel (it seemed shady). This "full day" tour of the wall ended up being a 5 hr day (2 hrs driving + 2 hrs wall + 1 hr lunch). Do yourself a favor and research for a better tour company than this one. We were EXTREMELY disappointed, along with the other couple that were on the tour with us.
The tour was great. Did see Tienamien square, it was super. Then visited the Forbidden city, my guide Cherry was very informative and very helpfull and explained all very well.
Afterwards we went onwards with the driver to the Chinese wall. We went the to less visited Mutianyu.
Absolutely amazing. I was very impressed with all.
All in all it was a super day. A little bit grey at the Chinese wall, but I was very impressed. Loved every minute of it especially since there you found yourself often almost alone on the Chinese wall. Super.
Cherry was very attentive and explained all i wanted to know.
Would definetely recommend private tour with driver.

Great spot to see the Great Wall
Visiting the tombs were good, but getting to see and explore a segment of the Great Wall was amazing! Our guide was wonderful - very knowledgeable and a great photographer to boot. She was kind enough to take pictures of all of us to record this incredible experience. This day was much richer with all of the historical tidbits that was shared by our guide. This tour is very highly recommended.
Jason was an articulate and informative guide and our trip to see the Great Wall during the peak of the Chinese National Holiday ran smoothly because he was able to plan to maneuver through the day by beginning early to avoid the expected crowds. Lunch, cloisonné and tea visit also included,
This tour was truly amazing. Took part in it on a rainy, foggy day by the lead of a fantastic, professional personal Guide (Lee) and a kind Driver.
At first, I can recommmend Novotel Hotel at Sanyuanqiao (can be located with ease by Airport Express - as a starting point and the staff was really helpful (despite I was not their Guest, treated me like that) when wanted to call my contacts, also gave free Wifi, etc.
The way to and from the Wall was awesome. I was just listening to whole China's history (Lee was prepared! :D), the establishment of different areas, the kingdoms, about the main purpose of the Wall, etc. Also had the chance to take a glimpse onto the the Bird's Nest (Olympic Stadium, Opening Ceremony Point of the 2008 one), despite it was not in the original program. Full generosity.
The Wall appeared as a romantic spot, was a real adventure to climb up to the top on the slippery stairs and look around on this top quality, world heritage site.
After the ~1,5-2h walkaround, got back to the city just before time and could catch my plane without any worries.
Can not say other than the service was 1st class and you should not miss this organization when you meet with some of the same opportunities as me.
I really enjoyed the trip. Our guide was quiet but knowledgable. The Wall was amazing and we went to a section that wasn't crowded. It was an inspiring site and not to be missed!
