Excellent day. Our guide April 23 2012 was Taj, whose knowledge of the island and volcanoes was amazing. He took us to "not the usual tourist areas" which made the tour even better. Definitely recommend this tour.

Steve, our tour guide has a degree in geology so he has a lot of interesting facts for our group and made it really fun. He had a great personality too. I would recommend this tour. If you don't want to or can't ride a bike - the van is cool and clean with plenty of windows.

What a wonderful tour! Our guide Matt was excellent and so knowledgeable! I would highly recommend this tour to anyone fortunate enough to be making a visit to the Big Island of Hawaii!

Doing what: Big Island Hawaii Volcano Adventure

This tour wasn't really what I expected. The tour starts in the morning with a stop at Rainbow Falls, which is nice. You get a quick tour of the city of Hilo. Then you make a stop in the Mauna Loa macadamia nut factory. You will not leave here without buying something in the gift shop. They give you free samples and that is enough to make you start looking in the store for these items. The Hershey Kisses with the macadamia nut are excellent! Then, you go to a Orchid green house which I could have skipped. Then lunch. This consumes half your day. Then you finally get to the Volcano National Park. I expected to see lava with everything I read and seeing an active volcano. The only thing you see is steam coming from the crator. At night this steam glows red. Most people flew in for the day, but I stayed on the Big Island. The city of Hilo (pronounced HE-lo) is one of the wettest cities in the world so expect rain. My recommendation is to stay on the Big Island for a couple of days and do this tour as a self guided tour. It is interesting to see. You will want to go to the Mauna Loa. I would have spent more time there than the tour allowed. The Big Island is beautiful with white sand, black sand and even a green sand beaches.

Great tour. Matt was one of the best tour guides we ever had. Would recommend the tour, a definite must do.

Doing what: Kilauea Volcano and Wine Tasting Bike Tour

We had a great time and think everyone should do something like this. I had a little trouble on one of the uphill areas, not being a spring chicken at 56, but our guide was supportive and encouraging and I finished it without being in the van....Wonderful...

The picture of the flowing lava is horribly misleading. There's no lava to be seen. We saw it reflecting off smoke after we went back to the place at night, though, which was pretty cool. The ad said it was a 12 hour trip. It was around 8 and at least 4 of that was driving. We went to the Volcano park, which has a $10 entrance fee. It was a pretty cool place and I realize that we got fed twice, but still not really worth it at all.

Doing what: Volcano National Park Small Group Twilight Tour

Really enjoyable tour, overall. My only complaint was that it is not explicitly stated on here that they only pick up at select hotels. This made it very difficult for me since I did not have a car. Otherwise, Taj was awesome and, even though we didn't see any active lava, it was a really enjoyable tour!

Doing what: Volcano National Park Small Group Twilight Tour

This is by far the easiest and best way to see the Volcano National Park on the Big Island. Our guide knew the best places to visit at the best times during the day. He also was extremely knowledgeable on the area and history. One of the best tours I have ever taken!

Doing what: Kilauea Volcano and Wine Tasting Bike Tour

Our guide made this tour!! It was a lot of fun riding around the rim of the volcano crater and thru the rainforest but the guide was superb. Eric was soooo knowledgable, enthusiastic and just awesome. Thanks for making our trip memorable! Don't book the trip based on the wine tour - it did not amount to much.

A fascinating way to see and learn about the volcanoes/volcanic activity on the "Big Island". Be sure to check the weather forcast for rain and dress accordingly.
