Trip is good. The only thing is that you need to choose a right day in a right season with good weather....
Maybe it was because the weather wasn't so great or that it was only a half day, but we weren't overly impressed with this experience. It might be better to describe it as a wine region tour rather than a wine tasting, although there were two wineries offering tastings. The overly long explanation of how wine barrels were made was a bit tedious and not much time was spent understanding the wine itself. To be fair, it's a budget priced tour so if all you want is to get out of the city of Bordeaux and see a vineyard or two, then this is probably a great tour. If you want to taste wine and understand how the different flavours have evolved, then maybe pay a bit more and you'll need a whole day to get further out of town.
A good value. Be prepared to walk - around the city of Bordeaux and in the village of St.Emilion. Lunch was excellent, and must have cost a significant portion of the tour fee. Our guide was pretty knowledgeable and you get to see a decent amount of scenery on the trip from Bordeaux to St.Emilion. There were running translations in French and English which kept our guide quite busy. It was an extended day which kept us busy. We drank wine in the morning at the museum, wine at lunch, and wine at the chateau. (And of course we sampled wines in stores in St. Emilion on our own euros). At the end of the day, the tourist office is across the street from Maison du Vin, which has great wines to drink at amazingly low prices. A good way to spend the day.
our tour guide was absolutely amazing! she was upbeat and informative. the wine we tasted was delicious and the vineyards were beautiful. the only thing that i was disappointed with was the amount of wine we got to taste. on other wine tastings i usually taste around 5 different wines and here we tasted only 3. not a big deal but would have liked to try more.
Very crowded large bus. Tourism Bureau publicity had said small groups. Hard to hear commentary at chateaux because of group size. Limited wine tasting but of good quality. Chateaux interesting but better to hire car I would suggest so can stop at villages.
I had a very good experience. Both the wineries were beautiful and the owners were very personable and informative. The information on the bus was interesting the only thing I would have changed was to have a little more time after the tours to walk around and taste. We didn't have a lot of time to buy wine before we had to get back on the bus.
Beautiful town but tour was more focused on history than one would expect for a wine tour. The lunch at the Chateau was the best part - great food and a wonderful setting. Afterwards we went on our own to a wine shop to learn and taste as the rest of the tour was of the historic sites.
Very much worth while to learn about and enjoy the side of Bordeaux that is unknown but every bit as passionate. The visits to the smaller chateau are the most interesting. The last larger one was not as fascinating. A good short introduction if you want to spend a bit less time.
4.5! Excellent tour. Lunch was outstanding! Afternoon visits to 2 wineries were excellent as well. Morning could have included another museum or landmark.
Such a pleasant afternoon and a great feeling being entertained by the "Count" and his devoted dog!! Loved this "hands on" style of tour with the people who are doing the work participating. Love Bordeaux!!
A golden opportunity was wasted when the Vineyard gave us 2009 wine to taste and then said it was not ready for drinking. Give a decent wine and you have a captive audience. Likewise when given 2 hrs in St Emillion why not a group visit to a wine merchant, they could send wines all over the world. The guide had given us the hard sell and then it all went flat.
Very enjoyable afternoon. Good value. We visited Blaye and Bourge. Very informative, interesting and made welcome. Would recommend.
