The tour itself was lovely. The tour guide, on the other hand, wasn't exactly forthcoming with information. It seemed like the guide was more interested in just walking along and turning around occasionally to ensure he hadn't lost our group. Getting information out of our guide was almost like pulling teeth. We did take a boat tour of some canals in Bruges, and the boat driver was helpful in pointing out key buildings.
This was a great trip and a good value. Fast pace and lot's of wonderful info that helped me apprieciate what I was seeing. Guide knew a lot about the history. Fun!
Very enjoyable day out. Our guide was informative and helpful and made a point of spending a little time with everyone individually. We loved the boat tour of Bruges.
The guide on the tour was less than impressive. He was extremely boring and disengaged, and paused to chain smoke at every opportunity. Further, any of the places he recommended to dine, shop or tour (IE, the canal ride in Bruges) were clearly establishments he received a 'kick back' from. In fact, he became pushy and annoyed when there were those who didn't follow his recommendations, because obviously it would mean less of a commission for him. And asking for tips at the end of the trip is absolutely rude and rather obnoxious; and serves only in my refusal to give him one. Do not ask for money when doing what you are already paid to do! Despite my extreme lack of satisfaction with the guide, the bus driver was excellent and the journey uneventful. Pickups and departures were smooth and there were no issues. Both cities are very beautiful, and my only regret is that the weather was very cold (snow in the air that day), so it was a bit too chilly to do the canal cruise. These are both beautiful cities to visit and I recomment touring them if you have the opportunity. The addition of an enthusiastic, friendly and interested guide would highly improve the tour; although the cities themselves were beautiful and the actual bus service was excellent.
Our tour guide was amazing! Not only was he knowledgeable about the facts and all the questions that were asked, but he was personable and really made sure everyone had a good time. He also fluently spoke at least 4 languages and would interact with those that spoke those languages in their native tongue to make sure they understood his descriptions of things. In addition, Ghent and Bruges were beautiful and a definite MUST SEE! Not only will I use this company again, but I'll be taking this tour again when my mom comes to visit; she'll love it!
Great tour, guide did a nice job of speaking many languages and leaving time to explore on our own. Well organized.
not enough time in Ghent or orientation. The guide told us we would have more free time in Ghent, and after we got there we were only given an hour.
A good short day trip, alas the tour guide brought us to his favourite shops and we had "more time" to spend in this shops than to truly explore what is available in the towns visited.
This was an excellent tour. We took the tour to see Bruges, but the visit to Ghent was a "nugget" we had not expected. Our trip was way above our expectations, and thoroughly enjoyable. Even though cloudy most of the day there was little rain. The tour guide was well versed, and spoke English, Spanish and French. We enjoyed his narrative.
These are two fabulous towns!! The prices for lace were cheaper in Ghent than in Brussels or Bruges. We spent about 1 1/2 hours in Ghent then the drive to Bruges was about 45 minutes. Were in Bruges for lunch. The pub they recommend is very expensive! Other restaurants are slower but a lot less money. Took the canal boat ride, definitely worth the 7 Euros!!! Have your hotel call the tour operator to see if you can get picked up rather than meet at the departure location as it was a little off the beaten path. The tour guide could have been a little more exciting but the charm of the two cities more than made up for that!
