Partly sunny. Cool.

Partly sunny. Cool.

It's the money of the affluent, spent with the nonchalance of those for whom it is no object, that continues to keep Cannes' expensive hotels, fancy restaurants and exorbitant boutiques in business, and its yachts as big as ocean liners afloat. But the harbor, the bay, the hill west of the port called Le Suquet, the beachside promenade, the beaches and the people sunning themselves provide more than enough natural beauty to make at least a day trip here worth the effort.

Cannes Film Festival

Cannes hosts many festivals, the most renowned being the 10-day International Film Festival in mid-May, which sees the city's population triple overnight.

The film festival excepted, culture is hardly Cannes' strong point. It has just one museum and, since its speciality is ethnography, the only art you are likely to come across is in the many galleries scattered around town. Perhaps the best way to spend time here is to meander aimlessly along blvd de la Croisette, then sit and watch Cannes' human circus pass by in all its glory.
