It was hard to find the location for connecting with the tour. We did contact the driver, who was trying to contact some other customers who had reserved the tour. Eventually we started the tour about 1-1/2 hours later than planned in company with another party who had actually booked a different tour. The sights were enjoyable when we got there, and it did work into our shore time from the cruise ship.
This is an okay tour if it's your first time in Cozumel. I have been to Cozumel many times before, did this tour cause I thought it would be something different. It was good, but I wasn't blown away by it. Jeeps were very old. Lots and lots and lots of driving around. First stop was Punta del Sur which was a very nice park. Didn't see the crocodile. Was probably off tanning somewhere. Water was way too cold for snorkeling. Very nice beach area. Then off to the tequila tasting, which was a complete waste of time. All they do is try an sell you tequila. Then around 3:30 (local time) they bring you back to the hotel where they pick you and they include a lunch. Wish the lunch would have been allot earlier. After driving around all day, all I wanted to do was get back to the ship. On the plus side the meeting point is easily located next to the Royal Caribbean Pier. The Carnival pier is a little bit further.
There was no one on the dock to meet us. We had to call twice before anyone even showed up. Then he put us on another tour group because he didn't have a driver or some reason. We paid for a 2 1/2 tour and only got a 2 hr tour with the new group. Will not book with this tour group again.
The only problem with this tour is that the drive time getting there is longer than the tour and the driver didn't keep us awake. The Caves were very cool and the tour quide was funny and he interacted with everyone. Our shopping experience wasn't the greatest as our driver took us to a higher end shopping place where there really was only 2 places to shop, instead of taking us to the downtown shopping district where there were tons of shopping and better prices.
Awesome! Jose and Bobby were both great. We have already referred some friends to use them who are going to Cozumel in the coming months. We truly enjoyed ourselves.
The jeep tour was very fun. The hotel where the tour began is just a 2 minute walk from the international pier. We were under the impression that we would be driving the jeeps through the jungle, but it's just driving on highway for a bit and once you get to the park you drive on a flattened dirt road. Although it started raining as soon as we left town, our guide was very helpful in putting up everyone's roof. The beach where the snorkeling took place was nice and secluded. We had a good hour of snorkeling. The Mayan ruin is tiny; don't expect anything taller than one story. Although it was small, the history behind it is interesting. The guide also provided water, but any snacks along the way were extra. The chicken fajita lunch at the end of the tour was delicious. We had plenty of time to enjoy lunch, browse some shops, and head back to our ship.
Decided on this trip due to others views, but have to say not impressed with the two reef sites we snorkled on. The fish spotted where fantastic in variety and abundance but the coral is suffering from bleaching and therefore a poor display . The crew on the boat are very professional and informative plus cold drinks after dives very welcomed.
I think scuba diving in the red sea has spoilt me a little but I would still recommend this trip to good snorklers who can cope with difficult conditions when it's a bit choppy .
Much of the tour was disappointing. We didn't expect the rum factory to be basically a convenience store and definitely didn't need 30 minutes there. After 5 minutes everyone on the bus was outside waiting for the driver to return so we could leave. Georgetown and Hell were hyped up too much online
Great tour guide! He was really knowledgable and caring. I personally don't know how to swim, he explained step by step about how to snorkel. He also swam and held onto me the entire time. The tour in cozumel was awesome with great information of maya culture!
This tour was a lot of fun and very interesting. The guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and funny. No regrets about this tour. I am giving this four stars based on our experience with the local tour company (Atlantis Submarines) and not our experience with Viator in general. The local company for this excursion is Atlantis Submarines. I suggest you book directly with them or through your cruise line for this or any other excursion.
The rest of this review has to do specifically with Viator and, again, is no way a negative reflectoin of our experience with Atlantis Submarines. Simply put, I would not use Viator to book my excursions in the future. We were on a 7 day cruise which had 4 ports of call. Viator offered excursions for 3 of those ports and since their prices were lower, we decided to use them instead of booking through the cruise line. Unfortunately, 2 of the 3 excursions we booked ended up being cancelled by the local tour operators. One cancelled because they did not have enough people sign up for that tour and the other cancelled because of technical difficulties with the equipment used for the excursion.
We did get our refund from Viator for the cancelled excursions without hassle, but the problem is that we did not find out about the cancellation until we showed up for the excursion. In one case, we had to borrow a cell phone to call the local operator. Only after several attempts to contact them by phone did we finally learn the tour was cancelled. This left us scrambling at the last minute to book an excursion through the cruise line. There is no point in saving a few extra dollars if you risk having your excursion cancelled regardless of the reason. Had we booked through our cruise line, at least we would have found out sooner and had more options for alternate excursions. When on a cruise, you don't have the luxury of coming back later to try again so the local tour operator must be reliable.
Jorge and Rudy were excellent guides and very patient. Kept us feeling safe. Snorkeling was awesome! You have to get the fresh guacamole and chips at the seaside restaurant where you snorkel. Awesome experience.
What a wonderful overview this tour provided, complete with history AND humor!
We had a great experience. Tour guides were helpful knowledgeable fun! Value and price were unbeatable.
The jeep excursion was amazing and the snorkeling was unbelievable. David the guide did a great job explaining all stops and was great with the kids during snorkeling. If you have the time it is well worth the price.
