Day Trips from Cartagena
Cartagena might be the jewel of Colombia’s Caribbean coast, but that doesn’t mean that visitors to this gorgeous colonial city aren’t also interested in treasures that might be buried a little farther afield. With highways stretching along the entire coastline and motorized launches coursing from the city to beach-ringed islets, there are many ways to spend a day outside tourist-laden Cartagena.

Historical allure aside, most people head to Cartagena for the beaches, and some of the best beaches around are actually outside the city proper. A Rosario Islands day trip means pristine, white sand beaches and crystalline water that’s perfect for swimming and snorkeling, and the fact that the world’s third-longest barrier reef rings the archipelago makes for some of the best scuba diving opportunities in the Caribbean.
