The center of all life in Charleston revolves around its Historic District, and the heart of the Historic District lies within the Charleston City Market. Steeped in history and charm, the Charleston City Market is frequented by tourists and locals alike and has been at the center of Charleston’s day to day activities for over 200 years. Populated by over 100 vendors from all walks of life, it’s here that visitors can rub shoulders with local vendors selling everything from hand-woven baskets to jewelry, food stuffs, artwork, souvenirs, and paintings. Standing in front of the market you’ll find a Greek Revival-style building which now houses the Daughters of the Confederacy Museum, and behind the market you’ll find horse-drawn carriages eager to take you around the Historic District and show you the antebellum architecture and the tranquil gardens.
The Charleston City Market can be found at 188 Meeting Street, Charleston, South Carolina. It is served by Interstate 26, which terminates at Meeting Street, which is the main drive which leads you to the Market.
