Grab a Slice of Chicago-Style Pizza

Food is a big deal in Chicago, from hot dogs to restaurants helmed by famous chefs like Charlie Trotter, but if there can only be one food associated with the city, it must be Chicago-style pizza. The gooey, cheesy, deep-dish pizza with a thick, cornmeal crust was invented at Chicago’s famed Pizzeria Uno in 1943.

It’s not really anything like the thin Italian pizza you’re probably used to, and while most Chicagoans rave about it, there are visitors who don’t care for it. Most likely, you’ll either love it or hate it, but no matter what, you cannot leave the city without trying it at least once.

Head to Pizzeria Uno for the most traditional - yet crowded - experience, or try one of the many other parlors that specialize in deep dish pizza, like Gino’s East, Lou Malnati’s, Giordano’s or Pizano’s.
