For a longer sail, pick up a KD Rhine Pass for Rhine River cruises from Cologne to Mainz, and spend as much time on the water as you like. The beauty of a river pass is that you can hop on and off wherever you like en route to explore the lovely towns along the riverbank.
Sailing south from Cologne, the main towns you’ll pass are the home of Beethoven in Bonn, the tiny medieval town of Bacharach, Koblenz with its two castles, the spa town of Wiesbaden and the Rhineland-Palatinate capital Mainz.
In the lovely riverside city of Bonn, take a look at Beethoven’s ear trumpet in the house he was born in back in 1770. Bonn also boasts a historic old town of Gothic and Baroque buildings and an interesting swag of museums.

Doing what: Cologne Rhine River Christmas Afternoon Cruise
A nice two hour cruise along Rhine river with lots of Advent time delights. Maybe it is not the best time to enjoy surrounding views (as it comes dark early in December), however it still worth visiting to feel that wonderful inimitable atmosphere of the coming holiday!

Doing what: Cologne Rhine River Christmas Afternoon Cruise
A very enjoyable cruise, we were greeted by the crew and shown to excellent window seats with a table reserved just for us. Drinks (ie coffee, hot chocolate or tea) arrived together with delicious hot cherry waffles and cream, St.Nickalaus came on-board and the children sang German Xmas songs to music.

Doing what: Cologne Rhine River Christmas Dinner Cruise
We were a group of 14 who went to Cologne primarily for the xmas markets but the highlight of the long weekend proved to be the evening dinner cruise. Real value for money, the food, service and entertainment were all outstanding.
