Tambomachay might not be one of the biggest ruins in Cusco, but it’s definitely one of the highest, topping out at nearly 13,000 feet.  Located five miles from the city center, Tambomachay is also known as “the Baths of the Inca” due to the ...

Because there was no one else on this tour, Viator let me customize my pick up time and the itinerary. I had already toured the cathedral and other in city attractions so we went only to the sites outside of the city: Sacsayhuaman, Puka Pukara and Tambomachay. Like all Viator guides that I've had, my guide was very knowledgable, informative and personable. Sacayhuaman was one of my top three favorite Inca sites. Don't miss it!

From pick-up to drop-off the tour was exactly as described and timed (practically to the minute). Felt like a private tour (two of us and three other people) in our own tour van with driver and guide. Guide was informative, able to answer all the questions - good English. Qenqo, Tambomachay, and Pucca Pucara were very interesting, but the highlight - walking beside the massive stone walls of Sacsayhuaman fortress. Of the tours we did in Cusco, this was the most interesting and the best.

We had a really good/satisfying overview of Sacsayhuaman on this tour. It also afforded great views of Cusco city below. The Cristo Blanco White Christ statue was just a 10-min walk away, although we didn't go there. The tour included a short visit to Tambomachay and Qenqo, and we saw/photographed Puca Pucara. Our guide was not only very knowledgeable of all the sites we visited, but also of Incan history and culture he had much pride in his heritage. We had blue skies and bright, bright sun - this is where I got sun-burned. This was my fault - duh, high altitude - put on sun-block and BRING A HAT when going anywhere in Cusco and the Sacred Valley. There was another couple on the tour. The van was spacious and clean. The only thing I didn't like was that we stopped for about 30min at a store that sold alpaca and silver goods - I believe they had an alpaca farm. Although it was nice to understand the differences between alpaca, baby alpaca, vicuña and llama wool, I didn't go on this tour to shop I would have preferred instead to spend those 30 minutes visiting the Puca Pucara site. Warning - we bought a scarf, and because we paid by Visa, we were charge a 30 markup, yikes! Had we known this, we would have paid in cash. It was such a hassle to get a refund, I didn't want to be bothered with it, I just wanted to get out of the store - but my husband was so angry with the whole thing. I had debated this tour vs. the religious sites tour which would have quickly visited other sites like the Korikancha and the cathedral, but I was glad to get more in-depth knowledge of Sacsayhuaman. We ended up exploring the Korikancha and the cathedral on our own, and took our time doing so.

Firstly, pick up for the tour was on time and very professional. Miguel was very knowledgeable on the sites and very passionate about his heritage. His English was very good and he was able to relay his message to all members of the group. This tour gave a great insight into Peruvian (Incan) history and is highly recommended. It must be noted that Tambomachay is at altitude and the upper archaeological site has to be accessed by foot. Travelers should ideally acclimatize to the altitude prior to going on this tour.
