Set sail for Dominica’s second largest town, the yachting mecca of Portsmouth. Whale-watching and diving are the town’s other main outdoor drawcards, along with Cabrits National Park on the northern fringe.
In the park, the ruins of an 18th-century fort are surrounded by volcanoes and swamp, with coral reefs for diving offshore and jungle hiking trails leading through the undergrowth.
Boat trips leave for tropical outings on the Indian River; pick up a crew of rowers from the Park Service. Trips stop for a dynamite brew of rum punch at the Indian River Bush Bar.
