Lovers of spooky kitsch, you have discovered your Mecca. The history on which these gruesome attractions of Edinburgh Dungeon are based - hangings at the Grassmarket, Plague victims abandoned to die - may be real, but the treatment, complete with actor-led 'experiences' and rides, is true theater.
Descend into the bowels of the place and be confronted by ghosts, dodge grave-snatchers and cannibals, witness the drawing and quartering of William Wallace, creep into a 19th-century autopsy room with fresh plundered cadavers and even experience the thrill of your own hanging - as many times as you like! Teenagers will love it, but keep the little ones at home.

Great walk and our guide was excellent, fascinating details about the vaults and learnt so much along the way. It's a must when visiting the Royal Mile.

Great tour, lovely to see Edinburgh by night. Our tour guide Liz was very interesting and told the stories in an amazing fashion which made the trip very enjoyable and atmospheric. The vaults and their history were great, would definitely go again. Thank you!

This tour was really spooky, the atmosphere in the vaults was amazing. The tour guide was really knowledgeable and brought the history to life.
Practical Info
The Edinburgh Dungeon is located slap in the middle of the Old Town (suitably, not far from Carlton Old Burial Ground). It's probably easiest to take a train there. Your trembling knees will only have to carry you 100 meters (328 feet) to Waverley Station.
