Wales Tours

The name for this country means 'foreigners', which is ironic, given that the Welsh were some of the earliest known inhabitants of the British Isles. The Welsh persevered, however, holding onto their language and other cultural traditions, such as very long names for places (that of one village is 58 letters long - a UK record); Welsh is reckoned to be the second-oldest surviving language in Europe.

It's a great place to visit. It's got the requisite small villages with narrow cobblestone streets and cozy pubs, ancient churches and Roman ruins. You'll also find stunning beaches (you can even surf some of them), mountains, Iron Age hill forts, and leeks - lots of leeks. Five of the UK's Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty are in Wales, offering fine opportunities for hiking, cycling, climbing, canoeing and kayaking. You can also wash down some laverbread (made from seaweed) with a Felinfoel ale at a soccer or rugby union match, or wander museums of Roman history or Wales' maritime past. So don't worry - if you're feeling foreign, you'll be right at home.
