Cycling tours in biggest European cities

Get on yer bike! Pedaling through backstreets and lanes is one of the best ways of getting around European cities, and seeing their scenery and landmarks up close.

Join a cycling tour and you’ll cover more ground than you possibly could on foot, meet new people, and keep fit while sightseeing from a different perspective.

Cycling tours travel at a relaxed pace, are led by knowledgeable local guides, and include plenty of stops along the way. All the essentials are provided, including bike hire and helmet. Here are just a few suggestions to send you on your way.

Amsterdam
With its smooth rings of canals, the Dutch capital and surrounding countryside are tailor-made for easy cycling. Amsterdam’s bike tours put the focus on the city’s centuries of history, highlighting major sights such as the Royal Palace, while also introducing local gems.

Paris
Night-time bike tours are a special feature in Paris, which puts on a nightly illuminated show. There’s nothing like watching the floodlights go on while you ride between famous landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum and Arc de Triomphe.

Spain
Barcelona and Madrid are ideal destinations for cycling tours, and sightseeing by bike is a great way to cover a lot of ground in these two sprawling cities. In Barcelona, fuel up on tapas at a beach bar at the end of your tour, having cycled through the Old Town past Gaudi’s La Sagrada Familia church.

Florence
Tuscany is a firm favorite with cyclists, with its Chianti vineyards and quiet country lanes. In Florence, bike tours take you to all the major highlights, including the Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi Gallery and main piazza, with time to stop for gelati en route.

Other European cities with a perfect view from a bicycle include: Berlin and Munich, the Austrian capital Vienna, Stockholm, Budapest and Prague.

Doing what: Barcelona Half-Day Bike Tour

In previous years, the party has gone on the hop-on hop-off bus tour around Barcelona so it was decided to do something different this year. Really glad that we did because everyone loved every minute of the bike tour. We managed to see a lot of places that we wouldn't have been able to see on the bus tour. The tour guide was also excellent. He related really well with the party and told us stories about characters in Catalunyna's history which we all found really interesting. Stunning scenery throughout the tour giving plenty of photo opportunities. Plenty of exercise for the party but it just added to the enjoyment of it all. Would definitely do the bike tour again - value for money and a really enjoyment experience.
