If you want to surf in Fiji, go to the Mamanucas. If you want to eat a traditional lovo meal, spend a day in a Fijian village. If you’re idea of perfect Fijian holiday is to lounge poolside with a tropical drink, play golf, and stay in the finest of accommodations, then look no further than Denarau.

Of all the things to do on Denarau the majority are comprised of the usual resort activities. Since the island is only 20 minutes from Nadi (and connected by a thin causeway) it’s a convenient place for Fiji travelers who are short on time or simply don’t want to travel too far beyond Nadi. Big name resorts such as the Sheraton, Westin, and Radisson dominate the tropical shoreline, and since the beaches aren’t the nicest for swimming (much of Denarau Island is actually reclaimed swamp land) most guests opt to cool off in the lavish, resort-quality swimming pools.
