3 Days in Florence: Suggested Itineraries

So much can be said for Rome and the surrounding south of Italy. But those who would sing the praises of its cobbled alleyways, ancient aqueducts, and bustling air of Italian joie-de-vivre, can only help but fall in love with its sister, Florence, for she is like Rome, only somehow more beautiful.

Day 1: Get Oriented

The cultural and historical impact of Florence is overwhelming. Cradle of the Renaissance and home of Machiavelli, Michelangelo and the Medici, the city seems unfairly over-blessed with art, culture and history. It is understandable then, that the labyrinthine alleyways get confusing. Orient yourself with a tour, either by bike, Segway, or the Hop-on Hop-off tour. In the evening, be sure to try some of the delicious local Italian fare in the grand Piazza della Repubblica.

Day 2: Art and Culture of Florence

The Uffizi and Accademia Galleries are world famous for their prisons (yes, prisons) and for housing numerous famous Michelangelos and masters of the 14th and 15th century Florentines, so consider starting your day off there. From here, a walk into behind-the-scenes Florence, where a tour of the Vasari Corridor will lead you on to Piazza Santa Maria Novella and its magnificent Dominican church. Here you’ll see Brunellechi's famous crucifix and Masaccio's Trinity, Palazzo Davanzati, Ponte Vecchio and Dante's house. Wrap up your evening with some leisurely shopping, before falling asleep under the Italian stars.

Day 3: Day Trips from Florence

Florence has many wonders to behold, but one of those wonders is the legendary Italian Countryside. Easily accessible from Florence, the town of Pisa lies a scenic 102 kilometers west, and half of a day is all you’ll need to see its famous Leaning Tower. In the afternoon, it would be a shame to miss out on the region’s superb Chianti. After all, “when in Rome…”

Doing what: Skip the Line: Uffizi Gallery and Vasari Corridor Walking Tour

This a mustsee again unlike other Uffuzi gallery tours which again is one of the top museums in the world. After a very knowledgeable guide showed up some of the masterpieces(even though the day before i was able to stay in the museum for at least 8 hours on my own tour) theres so much to see.We were ushered to a door which whilst there was crowds of people we were shown into the vasari corridor again one of the gems of my short florence tour.I could tell you what is held in the corridor as there is a world record involved but i think you should experience it for yourself. You will definitely not be dissappointed and a view you will never be able to experience anywhere else in the world.

Doing what: Florence Walking Tour

My teenage daughter and I really enjoyed this tour even though it was a cold wet day. Elisa was a very knowledgable guide with a genuine enthusiasm for the sights she was showing us. I would recommend this tour to anyone wanting to get a feel for Florence.
