Hoping that winter is treating you well, like here in Florence where is cold but sunny.
I’m sure you’re preparing your trip for next spring and summer, and maybe you are searching the best restaurants where to try one of our famous traditional thing… the “Bistecca alla Fiorentina”!
The thick, high, blooding Chianina cow steak. The meat that you shouldn’t send back if it’s coming almost raw, that’s the way it is! You can ask for a “cottura media”, medium cooked, but no more than that, it will be a bad idea.
In case you really can’t eat that, then you better choose the “Tagliata”, which is the same cut of meat, just already sliced.
So, now do you want to know my personal list of top 5 restaurants in Firenze for Bistecca? Here we are:
1 - Buca Lapi - the best – for the bistecca, tender, perfectly cooked on a real “brace” (grill), but not only. I consider Buca Lapi my favorite tuscan restaurant in town. Charming atmosphere, not super casual, even in prices, but the best money you’ll ever spend for food.
2 - Sostanza - completely different atmosphere, simple and “casalingo”, very short menu, good prices. Try also artichokes omelette, excellent!
Bring cash, they don’t accept credit cards.
3 - Osteria Caffè Italiano - definitely more romantic, here I had the Passatelli, a very old recipe that my grandmother always did on Christmas lunch
4 - Pandemonio - the owner “Mamma” will take the best care of you, in her funny and delicious restaurant in the Oltrarno side, the south side of the river
5 - Da Tullio - you need also a place out the city center chaos, this simple and typical trattoria is in the middle of the countryside, next to Fiesole hills, just 15 minutes out of Florence
Are you hungry now?!
Arrivederci,
