If the idea of living like the southern gentry is exciting to you, then consider your time at the Burroughs Home not ill-spent. This beautiful 2.5-story riverside home built in the Georgian Colonial Revival style was home to a wealthy cattle baron before falling into the hands of the Burroughs. Two generations of the Burroughs family saw their lives played out here, and thanks to one social butterfly in particular – Mona Burroughs – the Burroughs mansion became a popular hang-out for the wealthy and elite. Nowadays you can tour the home, sit on its wide porch, stroll on its beautiful grotto and lush gardens, and even hear tales of the opulence and grandeur that once was one of Florida’s elite playgrounds.
The Burroughs Home and Garden is located at 2505 First Street in Ft. Myers, Florida, along the banks of the Caloosahatchee River in historic downtown Ft. Myers. Tickets are at $12 for adults and $5 for children.
