The Frankfurt Maintower is a 200 meter (660 foot) skyscraper in the center of the city, making it the 4th tallest building in Frankfurt. The name "Maintower" is derived from the Main River running through Frankfurt. The tower has a 40 m (131 ft) communications tower situated atop the building, as well as five underground floors and two public viewing platforms.
The tower features two adjacent buildings. The smaller of the two is of a rectangular shape, the taller one circular and with an entirely blue glass exterior that features the transmitter on top. Maintower was built in the 90's and houses the Landesbank of Hesse and Thuringia, Merrill Lynch’s German office, and a television studio of the Hessischer Rundfunk, among other businesses.

Doing what: Frankfurt City Tour
We arrived during the art festival. Our tour guide was very animated and knowledgeable. You could tell he enjoyed talking about his city. Additionally, he dropped the group off near the site of the fireworks. I would highly recommend this tour as it really helped orient us to the history and layout of Frankfurt. We were most impressed with this city. :-)

Doing what: Frankfurt City Tour
I can't provide a review of the actual tour - my inbound flight was re-routed and I got into Frankfurt well after my tour was supposed to start - but high marks to Viatour customer service, who contacted the tour operator directly to verify space on the tour and arranged a shuttle from the airport.
Practical info
When the television station makes weather reports, the reporter actually stands on the top of the building. Visit the only skyscraper in Frankfurt with a public observatory to see panoramic views of the city.
