Brigitte Bardot was famously 'discovered' on the beach at St Tropez, and since the 1950's this French Riviera resort town has been known as a playground for the international jet set. Once a military stronghold, St Tropez was a quiet fishing village and the site of various trades including ship building, until the start of the 20th Century when it became known as a luxury resort for the rich and famous.
First colonized by the writer Guy de Maupassant and impressionist painter Paul Signac; Matisse and David Hockney have also found inspiration in the stunning light and striking colors of this gorgeous coast.
