St Tropez
The rich and famous might have their enormous yachts and grand chateaux, but any one of us can occupy the chairs and tables in the cafes that line the promenade at St Tropez, enjoy the sunshine and views, or climb the winding narrow streets up the hills to lovely, simple Church of St Tropez on the hilltop.

St Tropez began life as a military stronghold and humble fishing village but it was inevitable that with such natural beauty and a location between Marseille, Provence and the Cote d’Azur, it would become a seaside resort. It was the artists and musicians of Paris who first discovered this small town after World War II when they came to escape Paris and find quiet and creative inspiration. The jet set followed. Finally the rest of us arrived to see both the beauty of nature and the beautiful people.

The Plage de Pampelonne is a dream stretch of golden sands and clear, blue waters and is lined with glamorous bars and restaurants. For shopping, check out the exclusive boutiques and knick-knack shops, then find some more affordable offerings at the Place des Lices market. At night everyone heads to the famous Les Caves du Roy nightclub – paparazzi included - in the desirable Hotel Byblos, one of the ritziest hotels in the world.

If you’d love to be out boating but don’t have friends with a yacht in the marina, skirt around the edge to the ferry dock and catch a boat to Nice, Cannes, St Raphael or Saint Maxime. The feel of the sun on your face and the wind in your hair is the same no matter what your boat looks like.

Doing what: Ferry to St Tropez from Nice

Long ride but fun. Was a stormy day so made the waters pretty rough. Met alot of really wonderful people! We did go try and find the beach and Club 55 to have a drink - which we did find. Unfortunately, they would not wait on us...we did not explode as people with money! We did find a different place closer to the water with picnic tables facing the water and that was quite nice. Club 55 must be run by a bunch of snobby people. Guess they did not need our money :) The trip was not ruined by that! Had a very nice time sitting by the docks and watching all the people! Great day!
