Solitary Beauty Peak, also known as “Pillar of the Southern Sky”, is a surreal outcrop covered in vegetation, shooting into the sky next to the riverbank right in the center of Guilin. Climb the 300-odd steep stairs to Solitary Beauty Pavilion for a great view of the city, the river and the area’s unique topography.

As with many hill sites in the region, there are a number of caves here, customized with inscriptions and sculpture.

Nearby Jingjiang Palace is a complex whose arrangement recalls Beijing’s Forbidden City, though on a much more modest scale. It was built for a Ming Dynasty prince and is set in landscaped gardens with ceremonial gateways and elegant pavilions.

Harry, my guide was great. it was just me and another guest. We saw the city sights which are beautiful. You could do all of this on your own, but it is so much easier with a guide and driver and you also get to learn a lot abou the sights because of the guide, as opposed to just looking at scenery. I liked Harry so much, that i went ahead and booked the Rice Fields tour (that I also found on Viator) the next day with him (which as amazing) and then the Li River cruise (also on Viator) on the following day. Also amazing and I highy recommend all 3 tours and Viator was a great choice.
