Doing what: Hamburg Hop-on Hop-off Tour - Red Double Decker

Not good tour for english. They rushed through that and it was hard to understand.

Was quite difficult to find bus. There were 2 lines advertised that ran english tours on a consistant basis. But when we tried to find the other line we were told it only runs 2 times a day. When we went back at the time the bus operator said the tour was only in German.

Doing what: Hamburg Hop-on Hop-off Tour - Red Double Decker

Great tour, much better when it was only English speaking guests, when German guests joined the English was shortened considerably. Worth the money to see the sights in an easy way

Doing what: Hamburg Hop-on Hop-off Tour - Red Double Decker

The tour was great but there was very little English from the tour guide. Jokes were being made in German and no explanation in English about the sits seen. There were no English ear plugs for translation

Doing what: Hamburg Hop-on Hop-off Tour - Red Double Decker

We enjoyed the H0-on Hop-off Tour very much indeed. During the day we traveled on 4 or 5 buses with all Tour Guides speaking very good English. All in all the tour very good and good value for money.

Doing what: Hamburg Hop-on Hop-off Tour - Red Double Decker

We use the red hop-on hop-off double decker wherever we go so we know the brand well. We were very surprised that on our bus there was no multi choice language audio system. The guide spoke through a microphone. If we had been German or fluent in German we would have had what was obviously a well informed and apparently very humorous visit. However the descriptions in English were, to say the least minimal, spoken at speed in a thick accent very difficult to follow. Hamburg franchisee should ensure that their buses are up to date with audio multilingual. if they are not don't use them, use one of the other competitors who have.

I bought the bus AND boat tour online, the coupon they emailed me only said 'bus', I called to confirm by phone that my tour was indeed both and over the phone they said YES... but when i got to the tour boat I couldn't get on because my coupon didnt say boat on it. SO I had to buy two more tickets for the boat so I wouldn't miss the tour. By the way... the tour cruise was nice.

Update: Viator addressed my issues promptly and was reimbursed for the part of my tour that I (obviously accidentally) was not given tickets for in Hamburg. I would definitely recommend this tour to others. I especially liked how I got to pay for this in my home currency so I got to avoid foreign transaction fees.

The tour bus only stopped one place to "Hop-on/Hop-off" so the name is misleading.
Also, I only speak English, and certainly did not get the same tour as the German speakers. The guide would talk for 2 minutes in German and then in English say, "Right hand is the oldest post office in Hamburg." This was very frustrating. Also, no world war II history was discussed during the tour. I understand it is a sensitive topic to Germans and was not promised, but prospective tour guests should be aware of this. Other than that, the people were nice, the bus was clean, and it indeed did last 2 hours.

Doing what: Hamburg Hop-on Hop-off Tour - Red Double Decker

The first thing one noticed when starting the bus tour at the main station is that there are several tour companies offering this same tour, perhaps on a slightly different route. Tickets, unfortunately, were not interchangeable on other coloured buses...
Commentary in 2 German and English was very basic in its content; buses did not stop at designated stops as marked, but carried on UNLESS you tell the guide prior. Overall very average ..

Doing what: Hamburg Card

Hamburg is truly beautiful and perfect for a mini city break. The train service is excellent and not too hard too use. ALTHOUGH the Hamburg card isnt really that good value for money, firstly as the fares for the trains arnt that expensive and also i saw NO-ONE over the 4 days ever buy a ticket, and saw no ticket collectors working on the trains, and also unlike London there were no ticket gates etc. In hindside we could have probably travelled around the whole time, like the local Germans clearly do without playing a penny!
We stayed at Sofitel and it was truly beautiful!
Food and places to eat were nice., although the locals werent overly polite. Id def. recommend the boat trips and some time at the Harbour. The roofless bus, although good for getting around, theres not really many ''sights'' in Hamburg that needed pointing out
