I took my 4 year old. She's way into volcanoes. You won't see active lava, but the sights are impressive!!! It was raining, which worked out quite well. I was tired from walking all around Waikiki, and just relaxing on the bus was nice! The tour guide Dennis was great! My only concern is the length of the trip! Started at 5am and got back to hotel at 9:45pm. If the tour company could somehow work with the airlines to have a slightly earlier flight back, it might work better. Flying with Go Mokulele was not the greatest experience. For the extra $30 or whatever, you might just want to choose Hawaiian airlines.

Very disappointing trip. Essentially a flight and bus ride with commentary - very little chance to get out of the bus let alone walk around or stride out - there is zero chance of seeing lava flows on this trip. A long day and costly for very little value for people who want to do more than sit and listen. Suggest this is not one for active people!

I was expecting to see active Lava flows maybe I booked the wrong tour. The day was very wet

Doing what: Big Island Day Trip: Volcanoes National Park from Oahu

Really enjoyed our day and our driver/guide John was so entertaining and informative.

Our guide, Mee Na, was full of wonderful facts about the rainforest, plant life, and Oahu in general. The hike itself was great fun!

I really enjoyed this tour. Our tour guide, Rob, provided non stop info on the big isalnd and the volcanos. It was fascinating. The transport, pickups, flights ect both to and from the big island all went really smoothly. I'd recomend this tour.
thanks,
Daneita

The excursion was excellent. We were picked up 15 minutes later than schedule which seems longer because of having to wake up in the early hours. This was due to the fault of other travellers booked on this excursion. We also had to wait for three other people at the Big Island due to the fact they were booked on a later flight, also ending our outting a little earlier because they were booked on an earlier flight back. They guide, cousin John was excellent and very passionate about the history of his island. He tried to bring us to as many sites as possible, and we missed a behind the scene site because some people returned to the bus too late. The excursion was very well organized, its the consideration of the people who travel with you that can ruin an otherwise, a great outting.

Good to get away from the developed and touristy Honolulu to see another side of Hawaii. The volcano was interesting but not what we expected.

This trip was amazing. It was well run and organized. We'd recommend it to anyone travelling to Hawaii.

Overall, we thought this tour was great though there were some things we wish we were told beforehand. Our guide Captain Rob was amazing and really kept everyone entertained the whole day. Having studied geology and conservation biology, I was worried I would hear a lot of regurgitated information. While I did hear a few things I already knew, I was surprised to learn a lot more and it was a unique experience being able to see things first hand. Walking through the lava tube was definitely a highlight!

Two things I wish had been mentioned beforehand... 1) It is much colder in Hilo than Oahu and we were happy we decided to wear pants and bring a sweatshirt, but we almost didn't and would have been really cold otherwise (keep in mind this was in December...). 2) You will not get a chance to eat until later in the afternoon so you should bring breakfast (nothing is open in the airport at 5-6am), snacks, etc. I would actually bring my own lunch as well as the restaurant they take you to isn't that good, though you are on a tour of a volcano so I can understand choices are limited.

Lastly, though I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and was happy we did it, we were pretty disappointed not to see any lava as I know it was flowing that day. From the picture, reviews, etc., it sounded like IF there was flowing lava activity, you get to see it. I would have much rather gone out of the way and done a hike to go see it and skip some of the other activities.

fair - not worth the money

Long day, but was good the lava tubes where great, the orchid farm excellent and the coach driver and tour director fun and informative.

Definitely not a 'water fall'. More like a stream.
