Doing what: Guangzhou (Canton) China Day Trip from Hong Kong

Tour guides were excellent and we felt comfortable the entire trip, with all concerns well taken care of, with a special thanks to Alex. Would like to have seen the information at the centre on the Terracotta warriors expanded and for people who have not seen the full exhibition in China, photos and more explanation about this and if possible more of the warriors and horses displayed. Would have preferred to not go to the kindergarten but use that time at the markets experiencing the local culture and heartbeat of the people. The lunch was wonderful and the transport great. This trip was one of the highlight of our trip to HK.

This tour certainly inspired me to see more of China. Our guide was very entertaining with her stories of ancient and modern China. My children are vegetarians and the Cantonese restaurant catered to this requirement. I was disappointed with the attitude of another guide who was intent on directing our tourist dollar into the overpriced museum and gallery visited. Too much time was spent in these places and a certain amount of pressure was felt to purchase expensive souveniers. Pictures were taken of everyone on the tour by a delightful girl these were transposed onto plates and it was impossible not to purchase them for fear of giving offence. The markets in old Canton were amazing but we were rushed through at speed to the next gallery. We were encouraged to tip our driver and tour guides but the tour had already cost 700.00 for the family but it was difficult to escape the obligation felt. We missed the kindergarten because it was a public holiday and the long hot walk to see the panda was a non event best avoided.

What can I say, from start to finish this 13 hour trip was none stop with guides that obviously enjoy their job. The group was the right size of 20 and the whole day was packed with both fantastic places to visit with the background information to go with it from a guide who obviously loves her country, China. What a memorable day. Do not stop offering this trip, it is a must for all visitors to the area.

A long day but worthwhile. China was a real eye opener, not what I expected. The guide was very knowledgeable.

Doing what: Guangzhou (Canton) China Day Trip from Hong Kong

Excellent! Prior to going on this trip we had read the reviews and were well aware that a lot was crammed into the day but despite that we thought it was extremely good value for money. The guide in China was very good although he seemed to keep reeling off facts and figures which got a bit boring. We were constantly on and off the bus and that got a bit tiring but we knew it would be like that. This is a good way to see China in a one-off trip and made life easier with a group visa although the immigration at China was a nightmare, but a good experience. I cannot understand why we had to visit the Kindergarten as this would be strongly opposed in any European country and we feel this could have been cut out of the itinerary enabling a bit more time at another place. The trip to the zoo to see the panda was good although a bit more time could have been spent seeing the other animals too. Pick up and drop off by the tour operator was excellent and on time. A thoroughly good day and well worth the money. Don't be put off by earlier reviews, if you know you are not going to have much time at each place of interest then you just make the most of what time you have. Be prepared and it is great!

I guess this is pretty good for a day long taste of China. The trouble is that too much of the available time was spent in the government shop at the first stop, trying to generate sales. That time could have been better spent at the zoo, for example, or looking at the town. The arrangements in Hong Kong were excellent!

Nice tour and nice guide. Interesting stops - including a viewpoint to see Mainland China. Good commentary including a lot of information on everyday life in Hong Kong past and present.

Interesting trip, but the panda side was zero worth. A zoo was not what we were led to believe we would see. There are better pandas at Hong Kong Island. Gave us an insight into another part of China. Guides informed on the facts and figures of what goes in and out of China. Not enough of the local area information given as we traveled through. Jade place well worth a visit.

Please do not waste your money on this tour! For one the only OK thing in Guangzhou is a nice little shop where you can buy quite cheap Chinese things, for all you know you could be driving around Hong Kong still as it looks exactly the same and majority of stops is shops encouraging you to buy things. The whole tour is a scam to get you to buy more, they show you maps and post cards and other stupid things for about half an hour on bus give them out as if its information you can have then come round after asking money for it, they do the same at the end of tour with a photo of you, give you it then 5 min after come and ask for 300 dollars. There is a massive amount of unnecessary talking on the tour, yes a lot is quite interesting about China but I would say only 10 of what they said was interesting, the rest was either stupid jokes or how many MacDonalds where in that area. Maybe it was our particular tour leader who was highly irritating. The stops are very rushed and most of day your stuck on the bus and train. Market stop was OK yet you are not given time to really look around you are pushed through. In fact only stops that you spent all the time at was shops encouraging you to buy things! The Panda we didn't see and once again you walk up to Panda area and then rushed back to bus, plus if you like animals conditions and care seem very lacking. Not fun at all, not worth the money what so ever as all you see is shops and buildings and the rested your pushed through.

Very good experience. We would have liked to have purchased things in China, but they didn't accept outside currencies.

Doing what: Guangzhou (Canton) China Day Trip from Hong Kong

This tour is a fantastic experience, but is somewhat let down by several weak points alluded to by other reviewers. The transportation to and from China are fantastic, and the guides are superb and make the whole experience very stress free, especially getting through immigration. The visit to the kindergarten might be a little troubling for some people. The trip to the museum is, as mentioned by one reviewer, just the group being effectively placed in the locked room until an individual or 2 made some purchases, although the items are of high quality. The panda is a little ill looking and nothing compared to the lovely ones at Ocean Park. However, lunch is delicious, the walk through the market is great, as are the sightseeing stops. There is a sneaky effort to make you spend extra money by trying to sell a map, and also photos which have been taken off you during the trip, which are not cheap.

Well at least I can say I've been there, done that but in all honesty I wouldn't recommend this tour. I saw happier healthier Pandas at Ocean park. The brief glimpse of the Teracotta Warriors was overshadowed by the long time spent virtually locked in a room while everyone waited for us to buy, the long trip in a bus designed for small children was anything but comfortable and the only glimpse of China's culture was that they find ever more interesting ways to fleece tourists of their money. At least the art and craft shop had good things in it but they ripped us off there too.

Definitely consider this tour if you're in Hong Kong. It offers a very insightful (and fascinating) glimpse into the 'other' China.
