Turkey’s third largest city and a popular cruise destination along the Aegean Coast, the modern metropolis of Izmir is surrounded by a wealth of historic landmarks that make it one of the country’s most visited destinations.

The biggest nearby tourist attraction is undoubtedly the ancient city of Ephesus, one of Turkey’s principal attractions and a hugely popular day trip from Izmir. Housing the impressive Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, Ephesus is widely celebrated as the world’s best-preserved Roman city. It’s also home to the largest collection of Roman ruins in the Eastern Mediterranean, including a remarkably preserved Marble Road and a magnificent 25,000 seat amphitheatre.
