Thanks to its long and rich history that dates back for centuries, Malacca earned a designation as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2008.
Popular sites to visit in Malacca City include Porta de Santiago (A Famosa Fort), churches, squares, and mosques - a testament to the area's various cultural influences. Some of the most well-known sites in the city include St Paul's Church on the hill (which has both Portuguese and Dutch ties), the pink-hued Christ Church (built in the 1700s), culture-filled Portuguese Square, Jonker Street (known for its antiques), and colored red Dutch Square, or Stadthuys (Red Square)
There is also Cheng Hoon Teng Temple, which is the oldest temple in Malaysia, and nearby Kampung Kling Mosque, one of the oldest mosques in the country.

Doing what: Historical Malacca Full-Day Tour from Kuala Lumpur including Lunch
A great tour with a knowledgeable guide. Should have been a group but we were the only people, so it was a private tour really! The driver pointed out all sorts of interesting things on the journey and then knew his stuff about Malacca. He was not overbearing and left us to lunch alone, which was good. Lunch was a bit of a disappointment as we had no choice, three barely warm dishes (fish, chicken and vegetables) and rice were delivered. Not much flavour and I'm allergic to fish! Restaurant was in a traditional house, so the surroundings were great. Our guide took us to a couple of shops (traditional Nonya shoes, Chinese bound-foot shoes and traditional dress. However there was no pressure to buy which was appreciated. All in all very good and an amazing place to see.

Doing what: Private Tour: Historical Malacca Full-Day Tour from Kuala Lumpur including Lunch
Don't just stay in KL - book a tour to Malacca. We had a private tour which meant we could see more of what we wanted to and we didn't have to wait on anyone else.
Great day out to see the historical town - the impacts of the Dutch and the Portgueuse. Definitely worth putting on your itinerary.

Doing what: Historical Malacca Full-Day Tour from Kuala Lumpur including Lunch
Really enjoyed this tour. Our guide was very nice and very knowledgeable on the history of Malaysia and Melaka and we learnt a lot on the way to Melaka. The town itself was very nice and it was nice to see something very different from Kuala Lumpur. The lunch included was quite nice too. There is quite a bit of driving involved in order to reach the town so I would not recommend doing it with small children. But as our guide was very interesting we did not have time to get bored on the way. I would definitely recommend a Melaka tour if you are interested in history and if you want a change from KL.
