Wonderful sights, wish we had more time shopping!
Excellent tour! We definitely packed it in going all over the city; there is absolutely no way we could have done this all on our own. In addition, our tour leader, Hiromi, was great! She was very knowledgeable and friendly, and she had great anecdotes along the way to keep things interesting. Highly recommended!
The Kyoto full-day tour was excellent and I enjoyed it very much. The guide was fluent in English and gave a lot of interesting information. The only complain is poor customer support from Viator and misleading information on the voucher. The voucher stated that I must contact the local service provider in Japan (JTB – Sunrise Tours) to confirm my pick up time. When I called the telephone number shown on the voucher, there was a recorded message in Japanese (which I did not understand) and then the call ended. I tried to contact Viator via their website and received no reply. On the tour day, I was waiting at Kyoto New Miyako Hotel to be picked up by JTB – Sunrise Tours. It appeared later that instead of waiting for someone at the hotel, I needed to find their desk inside the lobby where I presented my voucher and received a ticket for the tour. Because I did not know this, I almost missed my tour.
Good afternoon tour. Would recommend if you had limited time in Kyoto.
It was a good tour. I, however, feel that the number of places to be shown in full day should be reduced to 3-4 instead of 6. I would make the tourist to see the monuments of historical importance in detail and not rush from one place to another.
This tour is really well-organized. I really enjoyed every trip with Viator. Moreover, the lunch was fantastic!
The tour was mixed. First and foremost, the tour guide was very good as he was knowledgeable and had a passion for his subject. Unfortunately, we happened to pick an 'open house' day when everything was 'packed' and so the day became an exercise of crowd control. Thus, it was often difficult to hear the guide because of the crowds surrounding us. It might be good to have some type of wireless audio system that enables the guide to speak with each and every one of us without us having to crowd around him. This is difficult with tours that fill an entire bus (and more conducive to small groups). The sights were a good representative cross section of the famous temples.
Busy day but great for those who don't have much time in Kyoto but want to see the most important sights
I would skip this tour if you have 3 days in Kyoto, if you have only 1 then fair enough, good way to 'tick things' off your must sees. The tour guide was fantastic, he was so funny and I can't praise him enough, he dropped us off near our hotel and told us interesting facts about daily life. He gets over 5 stars!! The organisation is ok, you have a sticker placing you in which tour you are in, English speaking friendly staff etc. I have only given it two stars because honestly it could have been better. I felt like we were herded around like sheep, rushing a bit through the sites and not pausing long enough to browse the gift shops, everywhere we went about 8-12 other buses of tourists where there at the same time. Would have made more sense to me to be on a different schedule for the sites etc. Lunch was not nice, many other tour buses in a hotel dining room (more herding). Western style dishes mainly and not that nice, we are in a country with fantastic native dishes, makes no sense. It was WAY too long for the people doing the full day tour (sat around for an hour after lunch!) and in an area that was quite frankly boring so walking around was not really an option. Would have been a nice tour if it wasn't so rushed and lunch was shorter.
This tour was terrific, and the guide was outstanding. The balance of travel time to sight-seeing time was terrific.
I highly recommend this tour due to all the really great sites we were able to visit throughout the Kyoto area. Even though it was very hot and humid on the day of the bike tour, we were kept "cool" by our tour guide "Kaz" who was very knowledgeable, courteous, friendly, and very patient with our entire group and went the extra mile to ensure we were all satisfied with the tour. We were able to visit sites by bikes that would have otherwise been difficult to see by car, bus, etc. We all had lots of fun and look forward to taking this tour the next time.

Very nice tour - in august this tour is very hot but making several stops using a new air conditioning bus it really help really a lot! Luca Milano
This was the highlight of one week in Japan. Excellent value. The guide spoke fluent iEnglish and had full mastery of her topics. There is no way to add anything to the photos and descriptions from others. One thing to keep in mind about these kinds of tours: everything is rushed. It is always hurry up and wait. That is the problem with herding 30 cats. If you have a problem with that, then you may want to organize private tours.
One of the highlights of my trip to Japan. My guide Sebastian was knowledgeable and entertaining, and took me to areas of Kyoto that were well worth visiting but I would never have found by myself.
